Summer of Cricket thread

Head should really roll, but it feels like Aus does not take T20 too seriously, so I can't imagine that they would take it that seriously.
It's a real problem

the rate of growth is incredible for t20, it might even rival football. Would hate to see as underperforming in both world games because traditionalists don't take t20 seriously

Play did not finish until 10.10 pm last night in the day/night Shield game between Tas and NSW.

Got there at 7 down for plenty in the NSW innings. Salzman impressed many in Tas Members, with a good knock.

I loved it yesterday! 3 poles went quickly - with an improved Owen taking 1 and a fast and ferocious Meredith getting the other 2. A number of NSW batters didn't want to get behind the Meredith thunderbolts, apart from the openers, Salzman and Konstas! Although maybe Meredith bowled within himself early. Shaw and Patterson copped some nasty stuff though.

Then Jewell and Weatherald went silly as openers, scoring at almost a run a ball for a 50 plus run opening partnership. Then tea/lunch was had, and it appeared with the changing light Jewell stopped seeing the ball as well after the break - and was out.

Jwell departed for 34 for less than 40 balls. Wakim made a decent 50 plus and Weatherald was out for a decent 95. Hadley and Hatcher peppered Wakim with short balls. Then the Blues got on top. A dogged Webster/Doran stand kept the Blues out under the lights. They will resume today about 50 odd in front, with 5 wickets down. Good tough, red ball cricket!

Really like the look of Anderson - only 21 yo. Looks like a future Test player. Is his name Charlie?

Although Hatcher still got the ball to deviate off the pitch, the rest of the attack looked less threatening than the first innings. Anderson, Davies and Sanga impressed though.

Was surprised Davies was first choice spinner? He took 2 wickets with his left arm finger spin. Like the look of Sanga as a wristy. They are getting some turn out of the Tas wicket, usually better suited to pace.

This is the loudest, most vocal Blues team I've seen play! Konstas is the loudest voice!

So do I mate. A J H clone. Charlie was 21 in Jan and now has his first wk in FC cricket. I also rate Davies and Sangha.

If Tassie wanted to save a match this is the pitch they'd wish for.

Charlie Anderson took his numero uno FC wicket yesterday. Big moment for the youngster. He has to now finally be close to a full Blues contract.
All Tas Members are very impressed with Charlie Anderson.

Those who have spoken to him and have access to Shield players claim he is an articulate fast bowler too. I hope his load can be managed. Apparently, Vidler and Beardman are currently injured - tyros who have pace.

The experts were impressed with CA's powerful body thrust in his action, whilst still being pretty smooth.

Unlike Liam Hatcher and Mark Wood he doesn't fall over after he delivers either. Hatcher appealed for one yesterday whilst lying down after falling over after bowling.

I'll do my overview here Tas v NSW under lights.

Impressed that Davies and Sanga exracted spin. Other members thought NSW should have taken the new ball earlier, but IMO, Sanga and Davies looked more threatening.

As you suggested would happen, Richie - Hatcher, Hadley and Stobo, lost their impetus as the pitch flattened out a bit. Anderson was an injury replacement for Jack Edwards, who also bowled well on a green pitch.

Didn't see the NSW 4th innings, but like NSW did, Tas bowled short balls under lights. In Meredith's case it would have been with interest, as he took 4 poles.

I think he now has 26 wickets from 5 Shield games this season, but can't back up in the Shield game in, game out. Meredith at age 28 is more durable than Richardson, Morris and Johnson, who all bowl quickly. Maybe look at Meredith for Test squads and use him like England use Wood and Archer - play Tests, but not in succession.

Salzman and Konstas are good young openers for NSW. I wish the latter would shut his huge mouth in the field though, which happened as the Webster/Doran partnership of left/ hand right hand batters, meant a lot of changes in the field for the fielders with 1s and 3s and change of line for the bowlers. A lot of chasing leather quietened the NSW vociferous fielders down!

Thought Doran looked more assured than Webster for their 50s, and was surprised he got out when he did? Both batted well under torrid pressure with lights on on Wed night and made hay in daylight yesterday.

As he is known for, Webster, made an undefeated ton of 108 under extreme pressure. He also took 3 or 4 wickets - and - captained Tas.

Astonished how well Philippe kept up to the stumps to the pacemen!

Wakim made 56 and Weatherald made 95. Bird hung around to get Webster to his ton.

O'Connor as an injury sub for a tired Bell. O'Connor looked solid as a batter, but lobbed a dolly to bat pad off a short Hatcher ball. I thought Hatcher got good deviation off the pitch.

The start to the Tas innings 2 with Weatherald and the ridiculously extravagant shot making of Jewell, scoring a 50 partnership at close to a run a ball. Most of us think Jewell should bat at 4 or 5. He just hates being tied down, but is a great strokemaker.

IMO we need Tom Dwyer as a right handed opener. He is a more trad bat, based in the Dravid school of batting, but not like the Pujara or Boycott method.

Ir was a really good game of cicket, despite watching under lights until 10 pm, to be quite tiring. NSW dominated on day 1. Tas fought back superbly. It was looking like a Tas win in the last hour.

600 people liked Webster scoring a ton on Facebook shortly after - but we need those 600 people attending live!

Test players

Tas

* Weatherald - not sure he is good enough?

* Webster - man for a crisis all rounder. Plays well under pressure.

* Meredith - definitely frightened a few NSW batters who didn't want to get behind the Meredith thunderbolts, and after the Aus T20 pop gun attack struggled in the World C, needs consideration.

* Owen - needs to stop playing T20 batting in red ball, but has prodigious batting talent.

* O'Connor - long term, but must deliver in batting, as his bowling improves. Only aged 18ish.

NSW

Konstas - future Test player. Played some superb shots! Good defence too.

Salzman - looks a definite, unless analysts find a weakness soon that is exploited.

Anderson - definite Test prospect at age 21. At last I've seen him bowl live.

Philippe - haven't checked his age, but good behind stumps and with bat in this game. Ditto Tassie's Doran.

Sanga - could be? Nice control and loop. A wristy.

Davies - could be too? His left arm finger spin surprised. Didn't see him bat though.

Speculation about the Aus failed T20 team.

Will they come back and play Shield cricket - or be rested by Cricket Aus? Tas Members think it is ridiculous how often national team players are rested.

I have seen a few world T20 games, but not against SL. Ostensibly, selector Tony Dodemaide said the Aus T20 team needed all rounders, so Steve Smith wasn't selected!

What I like in the 20 WC, is the lesser ranked teams have a greater chance of causing upsets against powerhouses.

It is a massive failure for Aus to be ousted after 3 games though!

Aus has won 1 of its last 6 games in T20!

I just wonder if some of the T20 Aus team players are a bit soft?

David, Maxwell, Zampa, Dwarshuis ?, Marsh, Ellis, Stoinis ( although he played well under pressure), are feted a bit in the media. Too many media interviews and fan attention, and not enough hard cricket?

They play no tough red ball cricket under sustained pressure. They play in front of huge crowds all the time, just bowl a few defensive overs or flay the bat for a few balls. They bat with no pressure of close in fielders as well.

David, Maxwell and Zampa don't even play for an Aussie state. Marsh and Stoinis too? Are they a new breed of soft, rich, money chasing cricketers, who traverse the world chasing the glory of fan and media adulation, but are soft?

Tim David knocked back a Tas Tigers contract - ignoring a chance to play red ball cricket - the ultimate test of skill.

💯

So now you can understand why I am excited by him mate.
Tassies swashbuckling openers took to the nervous debutant, but the kid showed maturity by not becoming flustered. He even took his first FC wicket.
Webster - man for a crisis all rounder. Plays well under pressure.
Yes he does. A lone hand by Slug stopped the Blues in their tracks
Philippe - haven't checked his age,
28/9. Excellent first inns dig on that difficult pitch. And agree his keeping up was impressive.
Davies - could be too? His left arm finger spin surprised. Didn't see him bat though.
He can bat. Has a superior red ball technique to his brother and is a better bowler too.
Owen - needs to stop playing T20 batting in red ball
He needs to concentrate on white ball for mine with Aidan O'Connor or Louis Smith as his replacement, bowling first change and batting in the late middle order. That is providing Smith is contracted for this season. Personally hoping selectors could find room for both as they look to have more natural talent and consistency than the incumbents, Hope and Owen..
IMO we need Tom Dwyer as a right handed opener.
I agree. Break up the proliferation of top order lefties. The kid is a good batting prospect but needs a contract first.

Charlie does have a smooth action like Josh. Similar pace too and ability to build pressure with his accuracy. Stay fit young fellow and you should have a full season for your state.

Sep Blatter should take over the ICC :D

And that $67m is only after waiting years for a rise. Still far too little to do anything to lift cricket to a truly international global sport. For example, Nepal one of the leading AMs is projected to receive between $700,000 and $800,000 in 2026. Pathetic and for a cricket mad nation too. Dont hear anything about the BCCI wanting to cut into its squillons to assist the best of these struggling minnow nations.
