touche, but the constant barrage of half-truths is getting a little tiresome. The "kitchen" is indeed dirty but claiming that only the wife can clean it is implying that the whole family shoudn't chip in to help :)

I stand behind my point. Division of a population purely for the sake of division does nothing for either side but make opportunities for profiteering and exploitation...

Oh FFS. No it aint your country if you are Greek or Portuguese & you want your say, if you are Aussie, then yes, your country.
Same as all these fighting against immigration based on some of the new immigrants wants to change Australia way of life.

The minority group Aboriginals, yes they deserve a say, because they are indigenous to this country.

You just like to argue.

Is it that hard to give them some respect for their culture & their history, give them some equality.
They don't want to take over, just a bit of equality.
I've travelled lots of Europe & just recently to Prague & London (been many times) & marvel at their great history.
I've travelled to northern Terrority & north West Western Australia & seen some great history there, but do we celebrate it?

You do & I do, but what about our fellow Australians, look at the growing popularity (hopefully all marketing by Gina) of Pauline Hanson, a woman who has based her whole political career on division.

This also got me thinking about what the National Day for each country is based on.

Clearly gaining Independence is the major reason.

Australia has become independent gradually and without much of a fight, so I doubt we will ever be able to choose that day. Unfortunately, January 1st (1901) falls on New Years Day so that nearly rules that out of the question.

As I said to someone yesterday about Cyprus ever getting rid of the occupying Turkish state, perhaps we just need to wait for a Black Swan event?

I'm an Aussie & so are my kids & very happy to be so, now I'm also part of a minority group called Portuguese heritage, now I believe the rights of the Aboriginal culture in this country takes far greater preference of my Portuguese cultural rights in this country.

I completely disagree with you though... I believe my Greek Australian cultural rights are EQUAL to indegenous cultural rights...... and should be as enshrined by law.

I wonder why Turkish Australians don't protest Anzac day actually celebrating our Invasion of their country? Or why British people hold 4th of July functions for their American mates...

How to miss the whole point!!!!!

Now if you had a holiday in Turkey celebrating the ANZACs attack. Or if England were forced to celebrate & have a national holiday on the 4th of July that would be more the point.
Or better still the Italians celebrating when the Germanic leader overthrew the last of the Roman emperors or the Greek celebrating the rise of the Macedonians & the rise of the Roman empire over Greek territories that finally saw the demise of the Greek empire.
