By the way put aside USA for we shouldn't follow what they do at the best of times but here's some that do cover lack of respect towards their flag, respect first and foremost imo - I don't see it as obstructing freedom of speech per say - maybe I'm a fh/racist/neanderfal/bogan foaming at the mouth without realising - doubt most that know me see me as such but who knows today, I'm guilty of something I'm led to believe.

Well you might be happy to wave one but I'm not happy with the connotations associated with it. And I know I'm not alone.

As an aside I wonder what shops are selling US flags in the middle east. Seems to be a never-ending supply over there. Wouldn't imagine it'd be a big seller in calmer times.

Its not the point about waving one but standing behind my/our flag period, thats the one I/we have stood behind since birth, morally nothing is perfect but my/our flag is my/our flag, like being in the trenchs with a fellow mate that will have your back not have 2nd thoughts of connotation moments otherwise I'm/your done.
I don't live or brought up in the ME so wonder all you like.

Not much happened on the 26th to be honest. Captain Arthur Philip went to Botany Bay first where Captain James Cook had rocked up in 1770 ( eighteen years earlier ) , looked around, found it unsuitable and went to the calmer waters of Sydney Cove instead. Basically he just stepped onshore, shrugged his shoulders and essentially said " This'll do".

Australia's real achievement is Federation, everywhere the British have come and gone throughout history ( Palestine and Iraq and America to name but a few ) they've left nothing but infighting and civil war. Australian states not only managed to amalgamate without a drop of blood spilled but forged an ongoing, stable democracy. January 2 would be good, even though Federation was January 1, mainly because it's unstrayan to not create public holidays.

Australia has a civilisation that is far older than even the Greeks with the indigenous of this country & one of the oldest civilisation in the world, it more far reaching than 200 years ago.

You still don't get it ... or you choose not to get it because of your blind obedience to some political position against 'Lefties'.

The Referendum was a waste of time in my opinion. I barely understand how it was supposed to work.

And yes, the flag should be changed to be a uniquely Australian flag. Not to mention our head of state should not be a British Monarch.

But I do not expect these to be resolved in our lifetime. As so many of the Right have stated in the past ... "We have bigger fish to fry"

Yes, like Climate Change, Environmental destruction in general, Neo-Fascists slowly taking over the world.

Let us fix those problems before worrying about symbolism.

Is it as old as the Portuguese colonial genocide in Mozambique even as recently as the 1970s? Or did you mention Greece for any OTHER particular reason?

The discrimination the aboriginals felt in their own country in the 60s was NO DIFFERENT to that felt by lots of other migrant groups... You dont seem to be demanding Greek or Italians or Croatians have their own representative voice in Parliament and to be able to "handle their own affairs"... shit you dont even want them to have their own soccer clubs...

We should change the flag. Why the fuck do we have another countries flag on ours?

We are (us and NZ) the last 2 colonial outposts out of dozens that had the union jack and still have it.

Shitty little countries with far more go about them than us got rid of it. It's flat out embarrassing.

Don't even need a new design. Just fuck the jack off and move the Commonwealth star up and leave the rest alone.
 
I say keep the flag,

When you see someone approaching you decked out in it (when not at a sporting event), it's an awesome warning system to let you know the person is a fucking idiot with no brain cells or a personality of their own.
