There was no doubt - he was in an offside position interfering with play. The ref's didn't stuff up - they did their job. Why should the VAR factor in things that aren't in the Laws of the Game. He is not only blocking the shot as is the Adelaide player but he then moves across in the keepers line of sight. Given a clear view after the Adelaide player there are plenty of keepers that would back themselves to save it, especially when considering where the keeper was.

You think this is the only time this has happened - it happens every season and probably in every league.

Melbourne Victory and their fans have short memories, they were literally gift-wrapped a title on the back of a VAR stuff-up.

What goes around comes around.

Time for them to suck it up like the rest of us.

The final decision was made by the ref, not the assistant ref nor the fourth official.

Which makes the decision even worse. The VAR didn't rule the goal out. Keevers had the authority to let the goal stand, but chose not too.

It wasn't a VAR stuff up, it was a malfunction. Understand the difference. And it's stupid to justify a bad decision last Saturday just because we got lucky with something 8 years ago.

But if you want to play that game, i could list a string of refereeing and VAR errors over the years that cost us goals and games (and potentially trophies). I don't need to count to know that we are a long way in the negative when it comes to controversial decisions in 21 years of AL.

Happy to give you 2 examples now: 18/10/2013 - Adelaide v Victory at Hindmarsh.
Connor Pain scored, but was called offside. Replays showed he was 2-3m onside.
A few minutes later, Nathan Coe got to the ball first and was fouled, but referee Alan Milliner unbelievably saw it the other way and awarded an Adelaide penalty (they scored from it).
The game ended 2-2, when it should have been 1-3. We ended up finishing 4th that season, 1 point behind second spot. That result cost us second spot.

I wasn't surprised, that challenge by Youlley was daft and very Melbourne Victory-esque. Kevin Muscat would've applauded that.

Yep we were toothless, I was appalled at the way the team played against Wellington.

Absolutely fucking ridiculous. Words can't express how much I hate VAR.

I know I have no dog in this particular fight, but the comms seem to go exactly how I think they should.

The ref thought nothing of it and had committed a clear and obvious error missing the player in an offside position crossing directly in front of the keeper's line of vision.

It is exactly what the law covers as offside play in these circumstances.

Ref is to the side and can see the keeper the whole time so he is not at the right angle to see the vison blocking - so VAR steps in and asks him to look at it.

Perfectly executed review process.

If VAR had not bothered to check the possible offside that would have been a VAR travesty.

People are going to be blowing up from now on every time they miss one, that was my main gripe from the start. Even adding "intentional" to the rule would just end up being another handball farce
