A-league attendances

I wonder if crowd numbers are the best indicator for success. I don't think we need every club to be huge that way.

I'd like to see fit-for-purpose stadiums for where clubs are at - get the most atmosphere for the crowds they have. + Producing good players.

Change that mindset I reckon we open our minds more to the NST teams and pro/rel and the good they could/would bring.
Yeah i think we have unrealistic expectations for crowds

I think clubs just need to start using stadiums that suit their needs. It seems like most clubs shouldn’t be playing regularly on stadiums bigger than 20k. Some should be at stadiums smaller than 10k. For me, a smaller packed stadium is more appealing than a bigger ground in a stadium that’s half empty.
WTF is the obsession in this country about the size of stadiums? Plenty of teams around the world play in big stadiums, even in the lower leagues, and no one gives a fuck about it.

The problem this country has, is lack of stadiums, not the size of them.
The trouble with the smaller stadiums is the threat of locking people out, Australia cannot afford to do that.

we are too worried about how popular other codes are imo

Lets get serious. This isn't happening.

Whilst i agree with you that there is an obsession about stadium sizes, even a 10k stadium for half of the teams in this league is too big.

I think the stadium issue needs to be narrowed in on the clubs that are causing this conversation to happen in the first place. The clubs that desperately need to reassess their stadium situation at the moment are Melbourne City (by far and away the number one problem in this league in regard to attendances) Wellington phoenix and Newcastle.

The rest can stay where they are for the next 10 years.

Well in the early2010s we were flying and geez what a drop it's been. Long time ago now but people who remember it's quite hard to read comments like these
I reckon it was a bubble

George Soros defines a bubble as when there is a wide gap between what people believe about a market differs wildly from the reality and there is a painful readjustment

the early a league a lot of people I know insisted it was lower premier league standard, we would finally produce better players and since we are so good at sport dominate football

sadly it didn't happen and there has been a painful readjustment

It was either a bubble or gallop Townsend etc all the mistakes the admin made that sent us downwards

Well you sure did mix with an un educated lot regards local football - lower Prem league standards, you mean EPL ? lol - produce better players after buggering the development pathways - dreamers and had No clue.

It was a new show that the new drawers could gravitate to no more no less.

We'll never know if died down if it was "new" or because admin got everything wrong that took people away I reckon it's up for debate

even bozza said something to that effect in the first few years of the a league

You don't think it makes it a better atmosphere? I do. The atmosphere is better when people are closer together.

Smaller stadium should be less rent than a massive stadium. Surely you can make more of a profit by filling a smaller stadium than hiring a massive one. Income might be slightly less but hire should be way less.

The problem of course is that such venues aren’t (always readily)available across the country. If they were, it’d obv be a non-issue
As someone said below, need to look at specific clubs and go from there. Just off the top of my head, I hope Brisbane aren't still playing at Suncorp. Way too big for the crowds they get. They should move all their home games to Kayo Stadium or something similar.

It was a new show that the New Dawners could gravitate to; no more no less.
And once the Big Bash came onto the scene(plus the NBL getting its sh1t together after spending the better part of the prev. 2 decades in the commercial wilderness), the honeymoon was over on that front.

It was both to their respective extents, no doubt about it.

We are too worried about how popular other codes are, IMO
For the most part by now, I’d say(def hope) that’s more admin’s insecurity than ours the actual fans. It really can’t be said too often but fvck actively converting ‘mainstream-🇦🇺‘ to ⚽️; they may as well inhabit a separate Multiverse from us IMHO w/how irrelevant it all is to them.

They tried that a few years ago. The problem is that Kayo stadium isn’t anywhere near the CBD. It’s in the northernmost part of the city so it’s hard to get to.

Just doing a Google search.. what about Ballymore or Perry Park? I'm sure there is a football stadium up there that could hold 5000 people.
