FIFA 2026 WC - general

The US, particularly the MLS, want this World Cup to be a huge success. I can see it as a complete football and PR nightmare. First football - they play Paraguay first. This is a team that beat Argentina and Brazil in qualifying. Sure USA beat them in a friendly (where managers trial players and tactics) but realistically the CONCACAF teams are not match hardened from qualifying like the Europeans, South Americans or the AFC. Only 3 real standouts mean their qualifying is a doddle and their ranking is probably inflated. So assume they lose or get a point on the first day.

Does the press turn?

Then they place us. Almost certainly it is a low scoring match with any result possible. If Australia win or draw then the US is either on 0 to 2.

Does the pressure hurt them now, they can't afford to lose the last game against a probable Turkey and a draw could be problematic for a third placegetter. After the hype from the draw the pressure has flipped to 11.

Non- football. Unfriendly locals that hate foreigners, entry problems and high ticket prices that only allow event goers lead to a poor atmosphere and empty seats.

The MLS that wanted this event to turbocharge the sport suddenly learn that they are still not a footballing nation.
rankings for host nations are traditionally lower than what they should be, given that the FIFA Rankings weights matches based off their importance, and friendlies are lower than qualifiers. I remember Germany being ranked low-ish in the lead up 2006 (yes they were rebuilding), but that's just the way the rankings work.

BASE WEIGHTINGS
  • Friendlies outside FIFA window = 5
  • Friendlies inside FIFA window = 10
  • Nations League group game = 15
  • Qualifiers for World Cup or Continental Cups (Asian Cup, Euros, etc) = 25
  • Nations League finals/knockouts = 25
  • Continental Cup tournaments = 35
  • FIFA World Cup finals = 50

My point was more that with only 3 relatively strong teams in the confederation that Canada, Mexico and the US there are a lot of simple qualifiers that inflate their rankings. Added to which their travel is less arduous than Euro or AFC qualifiers. They live in their isolated CONCACAF bubble and think they are kings of the world.

FMD these tickets prices are a joke.

This will go down as the worst world cup in history

Talking about this last night. Unfortunately they could charge anything and still pack the stadiums out and they know it.

Just 1% if the world's wealthiest people is 80 million people.

The top 10%, 800 million.

The point being there's more than enough rich people in every country to pay whatever the fuck these cunts charge.

The irony of sky talking about high prices. This stuff was known months ago. I get now as the ordering rounds have begun there's a bigger fallout but where was the outrage and attempt to liaise then? The fire just got bigger.

Either way it'll be a Superbowl style event with the wealthy, corporates and influences there and some who forked out so much.

There's a lot of money about amongst medium sized business owners there so expect them to snap up some tickets too. The general population need not apply.

I hope whoever on here has booked tickets has checked the fine print on refunds, not to mention travel insurance for flights and accommodation.

Regardless of who's hitting the cartels, how close are they to where the matches are?

Can't imagine flights between US and Mexico will be easy in the middle of any episode, regardless of political affiliation.

I wonder if EU citizens will be able to get visas easily if NATO is dissolved an they are at war as well?

Actually Cape Verde too...not sure who else who has qualified they are not giving visas to at the moment.

Where's the 'KKep PolitIk$ ouT oF FoOTBaLL!!$' brigade.

Ok, any tournament though...

Euros...or other sports.

I know honduras and el salvador had something during a two leg game
Yeah I know... this was ALWAYS gonna be a bizarre world cup but old orange tits is making it a farce...

I really really hope that some of the crazies don't use it as an way to strike back at the US,

If he does invade Greenland, the rhetoric says he will, but reality may be different, then the consequences for NATO are profound. How does that play out for the World Cup?

How many nations end up boycotting? Does the tournament get reconfigured or lesser teams brought in? Does it even go ahead? Is it postponed for a year and moved to the home nations? Bloody disaster waiting to happen!!!

Will FIFA the corrupt cunts take the USA flag away or ban them like Ruskies?
