Maybe funny in the sense that it's going to be yet another case of the 'Global South' being told what they should and shouldn't be doing by the 'Liberal West'....
And I'm not too sure if the 'Global South' is listening to the 'Liberal West' anymore, to be honest. The West has often assumed a subjectivity in determining the meaning and standards of global cultural exchange. In doing so, they have frequently been perceived as patronising, coercive and domineering. The cold sobering reality is we're living in a multi-polar world, both politically and culturally and no FIFA World Cup tournament with its quasi-political gimmicks or no quasi-political gimmicks will fix that....
Sorry I need a bit of clarification here, are the homophobic middle eastern countries NOT the champions of the Left anymore? Or have they been replaced by FIFA and the United States as the woke du jour?Maybe funny in the sense that it's going to be yet another case of the 'Global South' being told what they should and shouldn't be doing by the 'Liberal West'....

Look - I don't care how people live their lives. But FIFA and the IOC are both guilty of being 'political'. Their job is to organise sporting competitions not cater to political egos of any persuasion. I know it is naive to think that would happen because it has rarely happened in my lifetime and before.
Id like to wade in with an answer but Ive all ready been accused of promoting genocide.... lolHehe....
It's a typical cult-like behavioural situation. A mutual expendiency - "Islamo-leftism" could be the terminology.....

Back to 1934 Mussolini World Cup, 1936 Hitler Olympics, 1938 French anti-fascists protests. It's too deeply ingrained now....
1978 Argentina Junta WC as well.. ,Back to 1934 Mussolini World Cup, 1936 Hitler Olympics, 1938 French anti-fascists protests.
Australia not immune - 1956 Blood in the water. 2000 corruption allegations, Howard vs Costello stance on reconciliation.
So yeah - goes back close to a century

I think if you polled you'd find an overwhelming majority would like to live in the liberal west rather than places rules with an iron fist. The issue now is too many people from the latter have moved to the west and don't know what to do with all that freedom and the liberal West has opened itself to abuse because of it.Maybe funny in the sense that it's going to be yet another case of the 'Global South' being told what they should and shouldn't be doing by the 'Liberal West'....

At least they have ambition our suits are happy to host the women's world cup and get nothing from itThe US, particularly the MLS, want this World Cup to be a huge success. I can see it as a complete football and PR nightmare. First football - they play Paraguay first. This is a team that beat Argentina and Brazil in qualifying. Sure USA beat them in a friendly (where managers trial players and tactics) but realistically the CONCACAF teams are not match hardened from qualifying like the Europeans, South Americans or the AFC. Only 3 real standouts mean their qualifying is a doddle and their ranking is probably inflated. So assume they lose or get a point on the first day.
Does the press turn?
Then they place us. Almost certainly it is a low scoring match with any result possible. If Australia win or draw then the US is either on 0 to 2.
Does the pressure hurt them now, they can't afford to lose the last game against a probable Turkey and a draw could be problematic for a third placegetter. After the hype from the draw the pressure has flipped to 11.
Non- football. Unfriendly locals that hate foreigners, entry problems and high ticket prices that only allow event goers lead to a poor atmosphere and empty seats.
The MLS that wanted this event to turbocharge the sport suddenly learn that they are still not a footballing nation.
I suspect there is plenty going on behind the scenes. At least they have ambition our suits are happy to host the women's world cup and get nothing from it
