Summer of Cricket thread

Bit of a quandary this. Will Stokes want to bat a draw or will he revert to their cult batting style that has not worked so far and that many former players are saying is now dead and buried. I think they will knuckle down and go for the draw to keep alive the series.
Good question?

He is capable of both.

I don't think we scored enough runs or batted long enough.

So far Lyon not having the impact we hoped for.

Door is still slightly ajar for England.

So far Ingliss and Green haven't jusified their selection.

I think Green has potential, but a spell back at shield level might we warranted.

Credit to the Poms for coming up with a good strategy against Lyon. We need to one of them out becuase the next lot of batters might not be as effective.

If we made 30-40 more runs the Poms would have had no chance.

Has Cummins sacked Lyon after going at 5 an over before tea. Head is now on and likely to jag one given the luck he is having.

Patty might save us yet again.

Cummins and Starc have an uncanny abilty to get wickets when we need them.

Correct. We lost a bucket load in the morning session, first Head then Carey, then our last five for 24 runs.
The weather will be a factor though. The BoM is saying a high chance of morning showers and thunderstorm down here tomorrow.

Brook being frustrated by Barrell. Go on fellar throw away your wicket again.

My thinking is CA will let him have the series with Sydney being his swansong. Apt as that is his home town where he learnt the sport.
For mine sentimentality and team selections are mutually exclusive.

What I think Cricket Aus should do is every few Tests in Aus assemble recently retired Test long term cricketers, Dave Warner, soon Usman, possibly GOAT (although still probably good enough). maybe Barrel, and parade them in an open air car around a Test prior to the start of the Test. They should get a big send off.

The brilliant Aus bowling attack has carried some of the batters for sustained periods, who are also quite old - Warner (should have been axed years before he retired), Labu ( 2-3 years of sub par and should have been dropped to sort his issues out, which he has belatedly), now Usman has struggled recently, and even Head ATM a brilliant home pitch player, has struggled overseas (like Doug Walters and Warner throughout their careers).

Starc, Josh H, Paddy and GOAT as a superb bowling unit have papered over some batting cracks and sustained losses of form of some batters.

Even Green, although young, has underperformed as a Test player to date. He should be averaging in the 40s.

I think younger consistent Shield players need to be tried. 2 more years and a few of the Aus team will be over 40. They are not the future.

They should be told, ‘we have to try some younger players. If you want to keep playing, go back to the Shield. You’ve had a long career, but we have to think of renewal. We can’t afford to have you all injured, or retired at the same time. We must blood and transition some younger players gradually. You are getting in the way of a competitive team in the future.’
