Your unpopular football opinion?

Or you could just move to where your team is like I partly did with Hannover.

There are so many reasons people get on board with a club. I know someone born in Barnsley who supports Preston. As a kid he just didn't like where he was and Preston did enough to entice him.
I've always had a soft spot for Hamburg SV. It was when the then England captain, Kevin Keegan signed for them in 1978....

He was my childhood football hero!!

A friend of mine is of Cypriot heritage and supports Arsenal (born in North London) but his Cypriot team is Omonia, which was his dad's club.

I was wondering if they had links with Panathanaikos?

They have Similar colours.
Very tennous links at best... The Cypriot teams were, in the main, formed 3-4 decades after Greek ones... and because of the shared language and culture I guess they borrowed heavily with imagery and names for their clubs...

Cyprus today has an Aris, an Olympiacos, an AEK and even an Apollon.... related by name only... Sort of like Spartak, Locamotiv or Dynamo named clubs in the Slavic world.

There's a suburb in North London called Palmer's Green and it's often known as Little Nicosia with a huge Cypriot diaspora....

Just about every cafe is a shrine to one of the major Cypriot clubs.

I think we've all been guilty of something like that
Oh I've got some good ones. Got a Wolves fan colleague and at the TEFL school I had some student name Birmingha clubs out loud and he said: Villa, Brum, WBA, Wolves. Colleague storms over 'It's Wolverhampton in the Black Country'.

Not only Germans but god some of them have NO idea. Worst I've heard was one claiming Northampton and Southampton is a derby because of Hampton :D

Im with you here.... I have a club I support in most leagues around the world.... I picked Liverpool because of family preferences and influence as a kid, plus admired Rush and Barnes, Beardsley, Macca.... on and on.... IMHO its fine being a "supporter" of a club you dont hva ties to no problem at all with anyone supporting any club for any reason ... I find it more enjoyable to love my local, not everyone thinks the same though...
And Melaka FC in the Malaysian Super League……..

You know Malaka FC (spelling deliberate) could never pass by without notice of anyone who had spent any time at all around a Greek speaking individual :).
Of course I do! Thanks for pointing out the obvious!
