Rent freezes?
$30 per hour minimum wage (currently $16.50)?
Free buses?
Government run grocery stores?
Free child care?

All paid for by increasing corporate taxation and introducing a 2% tax on the very wealthiest New Yorkers.


He will certainly has a daunting task ahead of him to make those things reality for New York City....

The trouble is if you’re the billionaire principle of a Lower Manhattan hedge fund with a small mobile workforce earning millions per year in salary and bonuses each, then yes, you’re going to lose your shit for sure....

And then you're quite possibly going to think seriously about relocating your office from Wall St to Brickall in Miami. The fastest growing financial district in the world.....

A financial district with a mix of modern high-rise office buildings, luxury condominiums and a vibrant dining and shopping scene which some say is already the new Manhattan....

The traditional financial distict model of old has started to change. Brokerages, hedge funds and even banks can just up sticks and move around the world with ease.

This is happening in London and Paris at the minute too....

People are upping sticks and heading for Milan, Dubai and even as far as Singapore where taxation regulations are more beneficial to the wealthy.

I think AI will seriously change the financial services landscape. There's a lot of pessimism within the sector and calls for government protection on things like jobs in banking, trading, analysis etc etc...

And it's not just about salaries and bonuses...

One of the biggest reason trading decisions are affected is because of human emotions. Machines and algorithms can make complicated decisions and execute trades at a rate which no human can match and is not influenced by emotions.

The tech bro's, the bankers, rhe hedge fund billionaires and their immediate assistance workers will just get richer, in Miami, in Dallas, in The Caymans....

Johnny the overseas trade analyst on $125K pa working out of the second floor office in New York will be looking for a job as a cleaner on the L train....

This is often the case with the big end of towners....

Sometimes it's more about the politio-cultural fall out than the politio-economics....

Anyone who has even an elementary understanding of politics and how politics works innpractice would know that Mamdani's intentions to implement policies that would relieve New York City's super rich of vast swathes of their filthy lucre is for the birds...

It's easy for a populist poliician, on the left or right, to make campaign promises but once they are facing the arduous task of office and actually having to run the joint, not so easy to implement them.

Exactly. It's the socio-economic cultural change they're determined to fight.

If the cost to them is just money and they can easily mitigate taxation to a certain acceptable level anyway.

What they don’t want is the proletariat getting above themselves. And it's not just the Cuomo cabal....
