Different crowd, different atmosphere, better food....Less “cheap and cheerful package holiday" vibe!

North of barcelona you dont get the packaged holidays

In fact its mostly french and Catalans...

Even some of the places like Mallorca that are touristy have awesome spots. My ex lives in a mountain region there. She did a lot better after me and married an ultra millionaire It's amazing there

We went to the Basque Region when we were kids too.....

It was in the off season, not too hot and there was a bit of hiking involved. It was a good holiday when you're a kid.

Now this storm in a tea cup is largely over it will be interesting to see how the political fight plays out....

It is now about narrative control, domestic audiences, and whether this accelerates further national border measures or will we see governments insisting on deeper EU coordination on external borders in order to contain anxieties within the populations..

Politicians on the harder-migration side will treat the episode as proof that pull factors matter, that external borders can still be tested, and that national measures (temporary checks, signalling toughness) are both legitimate and politically necessary.

There's a train of thought going around that Morocco purposely engineered this by letting thousands of people cross into Ceuta to put the illegal migration spotlight on Spain's government..

Some say this happened with quiet approval from the Trump administration, which is friendly with Morocco and critical of the European Union's migration rules.

The theory is that Trump gets a clear example of “open borders” problems to talk about when he's next playing " EU-bashing"....

Trump and his team did immediately use the images for “open borders” messaging and the EU-bashing bit, which fits the political exploitation part of the theory!

So the political payoff here for Trumpy is real and already quiet visible.

There's a bit of a love-in going on between Washington and Rabat as well....

Personal and diplomatic relations have been friendly. The Moroccan king even named a road after Trumpy, and his administration has continued to treat Morocco as a valued ally in the region.

Meanwhile Trump’s administration are openly critical of Pedro Sanchez’s left-leaning government on things like migration, Israel/Gaza, NATO spending, and it's general “globalist” policies... .

Stretched? Yep.....but it's certainly partly plausible!!

Treating every short-term crisis as a distraction from it, or dismissing border concerns as just “blaming lefties,” is the same kind of selective framing the other side uses. Both issues can exist at the same time. One does not cancel the other.
