Pretty much guarantee he thinks China is communist. They may have been in the past but they've got more in common with Singapore than North Korea these days.

They're effectively a free market economy, with some socialist policies to keep businesses in check, (something we should consider here), with a single party government.

Singapore is a free market economy with a huge majority of the ruling party since becoming independent. They're effectively a single party government.

And to be quite frank Australia is pretty much going to be a single party government now....🤣

With the LNP being one big psychodrama!!

I am also guessing he doesn’t even understand what communism is.

For example, one could argue that the government with the most government overreach into private enterprise (akin to a communist government) in the western world is the USA…but hey, nothing like a catchphrase to throw out.

He wouldn't have a clue but also credit where credit is due regards China. They've completely transformed their country in the last 2 decades, generally, making life better for the vast majority of their citizens.

They're not beholden to billionaires whims, they have fantastic facilities and infrastructure and are kicking arse pretty much all over the world by sitting there quietly getting things done.

A mad example of this is their high speed rail system. In the last 10 years they've built 30 000 kms of high speed rail bringing their total to 50 thousand kms.

The total high speed rail in the USA?

80 kilometres. Eighty full stop.

Amazing what you can achieve when you funnel the wealth to the country and the people instead of upwards into the oligarchy and the top 1%.

Europe, Australia and the US cannot build infrastructure any more without unbelievable blowouts in both time and costs.

Cross City rail in Brisbane. $5.4 billion. Current projected cost. $19 billion. 5 years late at least.

Inland rail. $8 billion.
Projected $31 billion. 6 years late at least

Snowy 2.0. $2 billion.
Projected. At least $12 billion. 7 years late at least.

Say what you want about China but they get shit done. There's a lot to admire. Dismiss them at your peril.

1 shipyard in China builds more ships in a year than every shipyard in the US over the same time period.

And if you think (not you tsf) China has it all over the citizens just have a quick look into what Peter Theil and Palantir are up to in the US. Those fuckers, including Musk getting access to all of the USs social security are as much a concern if not more.

Those blokes would make the Chinese social credit system blush.

Which is why Albo has been so disappointing. Has a massive majority and has the most small target agenda in decades.

Fuck a duck. If you can't be bold with a 50 seat majority now when can you?

I've got a good Australian mate who lives and works in Shenzen. The last time I met up with him was in Hong Kong at a little 'Australian bar' in Kowloon called 'Ned Kelly's Last Stand'.....

On Saturday evenings Ned Kelly's turns into a buzzing Jazz Club and they have or at least had a resident band called 'The Kowloon Honkers' and they always play the Ella Fitzgerald number 'Slow Boat to China'....

But they ironically change the words to 'Slow Boat to Shenzen'!

This is because many of the HK locals remember the 1980's when the only way you could get from Hong Kong to Shenzen was in a little fishing boat!!

Today they have these 20 carriage bullet trains leaving every 15 minutes!!

I’ve been going to Shenzhen for over 20 years. Mind blowing the difference.

I’ve also vomited in the mini skip out the back of that bar.

Fuck oath.

Turnbull was the same.

Promised the world, delivered an atlas.

But I have also gotten the boat 3 or 4 times in recent years further up than Shenzhen. It’s still very, very grim up there

China will hit the same wall that Japan did. China, as Japan did, want to catch up to the rest of the Western world and when they get there it becomes a question of what do we do now?

Keep selling shit to mindless consumers?

Given their current fertility rate they'll lose 750 million people by 2100. What they do about that is the more interesting question.

Along with others.

Taiwan fertility rate. 0.62
South Korea 0.70
Japan 0.72.

I don't think fertility rates are a huge issue unless your entire economic model is based on endless population growth and consumerism. Societies will adapt. BTW Australia's fertility rate is 1.4 which is below replacement rate and continues on a downward slope.

Well tbf until the CCP is out of government then China is a communist country.

One party states aren't unhealthy for anyone.

They could probably do what the Japanese did after WWII and that's enticing their diaspora communities to return.

There's currently 60 million Overseas Chinese around the world including a million here.

If the diaspora returned to China that's that problem solved.

Potentially. A good numbers of those leaving were to escape the system but given the developments of China they may be enticed back as the west cracks away. Chinese in Europe are fed up with the economic malaise.

Every economy is based on endless population growth. That's a fact.

Without immigration Australia would be shrinking as well. In fact the idiots who decry immigration don't realise that without it the Australian economy would collapse.

Societies, like Japan, Korea, China that don't allow immigrants are in a hell of a mess down the track.

For example. 100 people now in south Korea will turn into 13 people within 4 generations. They, with others, are in a death spiral.

The bigger, more overarching problem, is given all of the world's economies are based on endless growth how can they adapt when there are no immigrants to attract. Which will happen.

The trend all over the world, particularly the western world, is below replacement fertility. There are massive problems ahead. Massive.

Problem solved?! Hahahahaha.

Let's see. A 750 million loss in people is offset by 60 million overseas chinese returning. That equals 690 million less people by 2100.

1.5 billion minus 690 million equals 810 million. In others words, China is losing a fuck ton of people and there's no fixing it.

Perhaps when the adults are talking you best sit out.

By the way Japan's population, despite returning diaspora, is shrinking to the point where entire towns, communities, schools and facilities have closed down. Particularly in rural areas.

You couldn't be more more wrong if you wanted to be.

Then there's the wishful thinking of importing millions of people who can't read and write from archaic cultures in regards to women and life to become rocket scientists. Germany has some of the dumbest policies out there. A very generous welfare state that has weakened immensely in arranging or even forcing people to get up and get working. Interestingly the migrant birth rate in Europe is so high yet the social and education problems persist.

All of the nations have stuffed up by not providing better support and policies for organic growth. Skilled and vetted migration along with a positive local birth rate is the way to go.

Many countries have flicked the panic button and rushed people in for a numbers game but not thought about the social and financial consequences.

You're right it's in the millions and we're going to see drastic shifts. In saying that, I wonder how many people may change their own circumstances and try to live more off the grid in a sustainable way not relying on the massive economic juggernaut.

I wonder about very small self sustaining towns. I guess the people there get their 80 years, live off the land and passers through and don't need to be too concerned what's happening on Wall Street. It's unfortunate things are all about money and being on the grid. Our system places a value on every single action. Until people stop calculating every single penny of a transaction little will change.

Honestly, read a book. They're a one party government with a market economy.

Do yourself a favour and look up the definition of 'communism' in the dictionary or check it out on Wikipedia.

Seriously. Pick up a book. China is about as communist as Singapore.

China has private enterprise, large-scale private ownership, billionaires and private corporations, competitive markets in most consumer and industrial sectors and foreign investment and global trade.

Did you know that the former GDR was not actual democratic? Having 'communist' in the name doesn't make it so. They may have started out like that in the 50s but they're far from that these days.
