Belgium is truly lost. Legitimate migration is fine but the fact you have hundreds of thousands of North Africans on stalled asylum claims while Europeans are flying the other direction for holiday is the biggest joke. They're not in any danger and have a massively out of proportion rate of offending. Basically the North African states are glad to be rid of their riff raff who only know a life of deviance and are running amok in Europe. They refuse to prove travel documentation for their citizens to allow deportation and play silly games with authorities.

We are back in the 60s for those of you who weren't around. Not even Japan or Singapore escaped local violence.
I recall reading about Dutch violence due to living standards in the 70s. Singapore and Malaysia was rough and I'll need to read up again.

what happened in the 60s
Riots and assaults everywhere: Japan (the red army), SK, Singapore, Indonesia, USA, Spain, France (admittedly, the French have never stopped rioting since the Revolution), Germany, Italy (culminating in the kidnapping and murder of the PM in the 70s). There were pubs that were strictly locals only unless you wanted a blue, muggings, territorial pissing. Of course, domestic violence was never reported because that would have been like reporting that the sun rose this morning.
In reality civilisation began to take hold in the 80s and came to an end in 2001.

Thats a depressing outlook!
But an optimistic take is we came out of those challenges with a golden age, so maybe we do again

While the stats say many western nations were worse before, those who lived in those times have said it's worse than then. Either they forgot how bad it had been but I think the issue is the creeping of violent crime into areas that were once considered safe places.

A lot of violent crime would be rampant in bad parts of town. You now see it in full view in the stations, shops and other areas once considered a haven. Imported crime has become a massive issue in Europe with police report again and again describing the suspects as from somewhere else.

Cologne train station had its annual crime stats released upon request to the public and the nationality statistics made it look like some sick joke with the out of proportion trends. I had to chuckle that 3 Australians were listed under misdemeanours. There are hardly any Bangladeshis in Germany but that didn't stop 112 in a year being nabbed for sexual harassment, theft and violence. The North African stats were just sickening.

I do wonder how much of people saying how bad things are is just negativity. My oma always talked about how the world has never been worse

It is definitely interesting reading syats on crime not showing an uptick but perceptions being that crime getting worse

As i said before, one possible explanation is crime is getting less homogeneous and more people know victims of crime than before, even if crime rates arent changing much

I think that's a reasonable assessment. The spread and exposure is more. I don't enjoy people using the non uptick to deny its happening across a wider area of society. Of course it can happen any time anywhere and I can sense the tension around.

The media play all sides for all they can get. They'll put out a reassuring report then they'll do a survey and you'll have women saying they don't walk alone or like to be at stations anymore and but the elephant in the room isn't mentioned. Governments have their wishy washy press conferences with the new stats but select bits to show and it's not until the media digs deeper do they then reveal key points and then another media company tries to distort those numbers for their own bias.

I've taught plenty of North Africans who are educated and professionals and they said they want nothing to do with the riff raff of their country here and have essentially disowned them.

I was making the point that things were not always rosy. IIRC about 20 years ago there was a history book describing every riot in London since the beginning of the 1800s. On average there is a riot in London about every 10 years. Even when I was working in Beijing (you know, totalitarian country, the CCP controls everything) I witnessed two riots, one of which was in the upmarket area of Beijing (monthly rental $US5,000) and there was a riot for which I later found out it was about two families having a personal dispute.
Can things settle? I am optimistic that it will as soon as the tide of religious fundamentalism begins to fade, the power of the oligarchs gets clipped (harder to do) and the focus switches to providing a path for people to better their lives without migrating.

I hope you are right.

Board of Peace off to a flying start on the human rights register.

Looks like America might be gearing up for another strike on Iran. Assets in place. I don't think it's going to be a hit and run like Venezuela was & Iran has some serious military capacity.

Shit situation.

Would love to see these fuckers fall but this would be a horrid war most likely if Iran fight back.

Includes a 1 million plus army and it would require a full rupture of the ingrained loyalty, particularly the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which is profoundly loyal to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the survival of the Islamic Republic, rather than just the state of Iran.

FWIW Iran's military is ranked 16th in the world according to the Global Firepower Index, marginally ahead of Israel who are ranked 15th.

So much for Japan's Article 9, not to mention the German Instrument of Surrender....
