No sympathy for a bloke that said Civil Rights was a massive mistake for the US and wanted armed soldiers protecting white men and wants women to sit at home and have children and was OK with a genocide in Gaza and was happy for people to be collateral damage due to gun violence.

Well the chickens came home to roost big time.

Should he have been shot dead for his hate-filled rhetoric? No he should not have.

Do I feel any sympathy at all for a man that said "I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage."

Absolutely not.

So fuck him.

I think you've separated what most people think in this regard.

By no means should anyone be shot but what do shit stirrer left journalists expect to happen when they berate and undermine the local populous? Today they're saying it's just reward for being such an antagonist yet they themselves are going to roam around defaming people or undermining anything of the local culture they're 'offended' by. Well, don't come crying when someone hurts you because you celebrated that exact thing. They shriek 'I should be allowed to report in peace'. Honestly, this isn't reporting. It's framing and going around with an agenda. Got to watch some John Stossel. Graceful man.

Was chatting with friends last night and we get there was a platform pushing Kirk forward but why couldn't those who disagree with him just call him a dickhead, politely suggest people don't go to his events and ignore him? I guess without absolute protest those attended may not be swayed. To think the number of young people who attended, do thy really have such convictions or was it just jumping on a band wagon?
The reason why is the Internet/social-media specifically. When people on both sides mainly stick to their algorithm-curated online echo-chambers…this is the worst-case scenario outcome.

That being said, Kirk totes reaped what he sowed in the end - particularly tragic in the context of when I first heard of him roughly 8 years ago, he was significantly more moderate in his views back then; there was this old clip on YT where he was debating these two actual neo-Nazi skinheads and told them in no uncertain terms that there’s no compatibility between their ideology and MAGA’s…obv. he ended up changing his tune on that👀

The number of high profile athletes coming out is staggering. It just goes to show the Hollywood bubble that gets presented is a minority and there are a range of views out there about how the country should be.
Majority of people do do that. Unfortunately, people like Kirk peddled a rhetoric that empowers those who agree with him to engage in actions that bring harm, disunity, and violence to the groups they hate. Take Christchurch for example. The shooter was emboldened by right wing rhetoric so much so that he felt justified in carrying out a massacre.

Last week, the Islamic College in Brisbane had to do a full scale evacuation and sweep following a bomb threat. The Gold Coast mosque was locked down after a man entered and threw what looked like a home made bomb inside, and then ran off.

There are events in America being cancelled out of fear that ICE will be waiting outside to grab whoever they can. School teachers are having to hide kids in closets and in other classrooms so that ICE agents don't find them.

It's easy enough to say ignore, but the reality is that supporters of people like Kirk are not ignoring. They are engaging in action that brings harm to people.

That's the whole thing though. They embolden the worst parts of humanity to stick their head above the parapet and it creates actual harm.

But it's harm that affects marginalised people so who gives a fuck? Amirite?

Meanwhile the 'left's' crime, amongst outrages, is to say you should be nice to trans people.

Oh the humanity, how will the world go on.

I think we need to come together and find what we've got in common rather then what makes us different.

It's out of control all this political discourse. You can be a good person if you're right or left

Do you think trans people are mentally ill?

No. All that stuff is crazy man. I swear identity politics was just brought in so we argue about this rather than important issues like house prices homeless etc

Also there's no middle anymore you're either far right a Nazi who hates everyone or left a bleeding heart who's a doormat.

Let's just look at the last 10 years in the US. Do you think people want to find common ground? We literally had rallies where people were saying no to migration, and fuelling that with Neo-Nazi ideology and rhetoric.

Come on man, that's a pretty weak statement to make, and it's also an easy statement to make. I'm not going to assume anything about you, but for someone like me, those statements do nothing. I'm one of the people that would be kicked out, or harassed and abused simply based on my skin colour alone. I don't have the luxury of privilege or waiting for people to find common ground.

I agree with you on the distractions that they create, but sometimes you need revolutions to fix shit.

I'm not advocating violence, but it's quite clear that one side is intent on violence and willing to kill for their ideology.

No one should be killed for holding political views,as abhorrent as they are to me.USA purports to be a democracy but has a long history of political assassinations and attempted assassinations. The gun culture and the divisiveness in US politics encourage crackpots to use guns to eliminate opponents.

Kirk will probably become the Horst Wessel of the MAGA movement as a by product of this heinous crime.

Fair enough. But what’s apparent is dialogue is dead and there’s no point trying to argue and reason via our viewpoints anymore. If one cannot state a simple truth such as “men cant have babies” without being branded transphobe , evil, fascist etc we really ought to cease communicating at all and segregate society according to right and left. The right wont want to give up its right to state simple truths and the left wont want to give up its right to control, cancel , assassinate speech it perceives at hate filled. So we are at an impasse without any feasible way forward, other than say civil war or segregation. The current status quo cannot continue since its now no longer just disagreements about speech and policy but has morphed into a culture of assassination and gravedancing. This isnt sustainable.

It seems like democracy is essentially dead and I’m not even sure the left wants democracy anymore. Why would they when people like Kirk constantly make their viewpoints seem retarded and they had no way to fire back other than with, ironically, a gun.

It begs the question to what extent can someone speak on the murder of someone and not be doxxed. Those fired have been met with statements from employers that the person engaged in views that aren't compatible with their organisation. Ironically some of those exact employers are liberal organisations that may have denouched Kirk in the past.

That's the internet I guess. People probably aired their views on JFK or MLK back in the day to colleagues and a quick retort was had and that was probably that.
