World Cup Qualifying 2026 - CONMEBOL

Ecuador has qualified for the World Cup with a unique achievement, recording eight 0:0 draws

Throughout the entire qualifying campaign, Ecuador kept a clean sheet in 12 of 17 matches, conceding only 5 goals – the fewest in the history of modern South American qualifiers. Ecuador officially booked their place at the World Cup after yet another 0:0 draw, their fourth in a row – a streak that has never before occurred in World Cup qualifying on any continent.

Totally didn't occur to me but the 5 South American nations have been confirmed. Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia and Paraguay.

The one playoff spot is between Venezuela and Bolivia with the former 1 point ahead and the latter hosting Brazil in the final game. You'd expect Venezuela to make it.

Chile and Peru bottom 2. Feels good somehow given their arrogance towards us in the past.

What have Chile or Peru done to us in the big picture JS ? I can't recall but that their arrogance they expect to beat us the way I see it.
I like Chile being I know quite a few of them due to business and visiting Santiago quite a bit over the years.

From memory, Peru's comments in the media surrounding both the 2018 WC fixture, and 2022 playoff to qualify echoed those of Uruguay in the 2001-2005 period.

Chile... not so sure to be honest. Am presuming pre-2014 WC (which, again from memory, there was some backtracks on that following the opening 2014 match).

yes ok, the sth mericans always got the attitude the way I see it - in their blood compared to the aussie conservatives.

As Nic said. Their attitude. Now to see them at the bottom feels good. Had we not started so poorly in Brazil we may have gone close. Peru's sentient before the playoff put an egg on their face.

Get in!

Who do they play next?
Will be in the interncontinental playoffs.
Top 2 ranked nations are seeded to the final playoffs, with the other 4 drawn randomly into fixtures to determine who will play to two seeds.

Winners of those last two games qualify

Stoked for them mate

They have the hardest home ground to play at in football

Probably how they got the win too

Assuming a 1 v (4v5) and 2 v (3v6) fixture for playoffs, using that projection, the playoffs will be:

Iraq v (Curacao v El Salvador)
Congo DR v (Bolivia v New Caledonia)ssuming a 1 v (4v5) and 2 v (3v6) fixture for playoffs, using that projection, the playoffs will be:

Wow Bolivia. Didn't realised they'd gone to USA 94.

Venezuela lost 6:3 at home to Colombia but had early goals. They surely weren't expecting Bolivia to win.

DR Congo v Jamaica

Iraq v Bolivia

Wonder how much traffic your videos will attack from the online 'African football experts'.

Somehow these intercontinental playoffs are perfect with teams that have been in and around the mix for years. Iraq just that bit off in Asia, Bolivia with the odd improvement but so tough in South America while DR Congo have many good players and now they're just about there.
