World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

who are we cheering for out of arnie iraqiroos or indonesia who i have a soft spot for (and anyway usually cheer for east asia)

Iraq may need two wins as a small win here and a draw against Saudi won't be enough.

I'll support Iraq for Arnold.

Seeing all those empty seats show go's big those crowds are when Australia play in Saudi.

Brave shirt choice by Arnie in what feels like 36 degrees. Light blue business shirt. Can't beat Ange essential jumping in a swimming pool in UAE though.

If I've calculated correctly, a 1:0 UAE win over Qatar would see Oman in 2nd on goals scored. Not all hope is lost but there in a bad way.

Goal Iraq on 76. Indonesia will be eliminated. At this rate a draw would suffice for Saudi Arabia.

Iraq win. So an Indonesian player had a boot close to the face which was given a foul. In the same play the Iraq player elbowed the Indonesian. This happened in the box. The elbow earned a second yellow but a free kick to Iraq.

Indonesian officials crowding the ref. It was a bit of an amateur performance with players constantly crowding and questioning.

Great graphic - is a bit out of date I think though for Africa?

Decided to do a little "Who can guarantee qualification by the end of the window" scenario:

AFC (last day of Fourth Round - final direct spots)
  1. UAE will qualify with at least a draw against Qatar
    1. Qatar will qualify with victory over UAE
  2. Saudi Arabia will qualify with at least a draw against Iraq
    1. Iraq will qualify with victory over Iraq

CAF (last day of regular group play)
  1. Egypt has qualified
  2. Senegal will qualify with at least a draw against Mauritania - or a loss under certain circumstances
    1. DR Congo will qualify with a victory over Sudan, and a Senegal loss - with an 8 goal turnaround
  3. Benin will qualify with a victory over Nigeria. There are other scenarios too, but will look at them with the other nations.
    1. South Africa will qualify with a victory over Rwanda AND a Nigeria victory over Benin, OR in the event Nigeria and Benin draw, will need to defeat Rwanda by 2 goals or more.
    2. Nigeria will qualify with a victory of 2 goals or more over Benin AND South Africa failing to defeat Rwanda.
  4. Cape Verde will qualify with a victory over Eswatini. A draw will also suffice, if Cameroon fail to defeat Angola
    1. Cameroon will qualify with a victory over Angola AND Cape Verde failing to defeat Eswatini.
  5. Morocco has qualified
  6. Ivory Coast will qualify with a victory over Kenya, OR a draw provided Gabon fail to defeat Burundi.
    1. Gabon will qualify with a victory over Burundi, AND Ivory Coast fail to defeat Kenya. A Gabon - Burundi draw can see them qualify, IF Ivory Coast also are defeated by 12 goals.
  7. Algeria has qualified
  8. Tunisia has qualified
  9. Ghana will qualify with at least a draw against Comoros. A loss against Comoros will only see them fail to qualify if Madagascar defeats Mail AND an 8 goal turnaround

UEFA (only groups that can have a guaranteed qualification this week)
  1. Group B
    1. Switzerland can qualify with a victory over Slovenia AND Kosovo failing to defeat Sweden
  2. Group D
    1. France can qualify with a victory over Iceland AND Ukraine failing to defeat Azerbaijan
  3. Group F
    1. Portugal can qualify with a victory over Hungary AND Armenia failing to defeat Republic of Ireland
  4. Group K
    1. England can qualify with a victory over Latvia

Check the Connor Metcalfe interview posted today.
Infantile talks off the Canada scarf he wore during the match sitting with the Canadian PM, and entered the Australian dressing room and congratulated the Australian players!

Ange to Indonesia?

I think Indonesia need to get someone in who understands international football. A very quick influx of players is tricky to manage but they have a stronger core now. I think it's pretty disappointing for the domestic based players as they're not bad.

I think this ones more up-to-date:

Qatar lead UAE 2:0 and are qualified from here I reckon. Honestly, I'd prefer this as the UAE side have way too many imports.

Qatar red and now 15 added. UAE need 2 goals. They go for it. Might be obvious we'll see a UAE- Iraq AFC playoff.

UAE score. Now shit gets real. 1 more goal and they're qualified on goals scored.
