World Cup 2026 Australia thread

I can't believe no-one on these panel shows mentions Toure, McGree, Circati. They misunderstand the team and how we play.
Yeah, they rarely mention our best 6 players which in my opinion in no particular order are, Irankunda, Toure, Bos, McGree, Souttar and Circati. Overseas pundits are spending segments talking about Irvine, O'Neill, Behich, Boyle, Ryan etc and judging us on how we play during the last World Cup and in qualifying. But we've never had 70% of our best team for any of the qualifying matches, this will be the first time our best team has played together. It's the most attacking force we've had in a long long time, even if it's still predominantly counter attacking and the team is significantly better than last World Cup.

If we had figured out our midfield this cycle as well, we'd definitely be a lot better team again but unfortunately we'll probably have to accept the lack of midfield ball-progression and just rely on individual brilliance from our best players.

From our starting lineup, 7/11 players weren't at the last World Cup. 3 of the others Irvine, McGree and Souttar are always injured and have rarely played for us during qualifying, I think we are going to surprise a lot of people.

Its weird that every a league era world cup the midfield has been the only strength and now its our main weakness

The chances of the Socceroos making the knockout stage should be higher given that we're a dangerous side and will be looking to get results so if they're writing us off this early we should just take the prediction with a grain of salt.
I'd say we have about a 50% chance to make it out, maybe slightlyyy less like 48% but the others are way too high in comparison. US and Turkey should not be 80%. I do agree that we are the least likely to make it out but again it's very narrow from 1-4.

I know. It's a US newspaper so it's gonna be biased.

yes absolutely take all this goss/media and more so Ai with a grain of salt but I wouldn't say were a dangerous side.
Like really why would any in our group fear but respect us.

Its weird looking at the impressive pedigree of usas defemders and how shaley they are at the back
Not really - some are old. Some like Richards are great 1 v 1 but struggle against roaming attackers, Bos Toure and Irankunda will love playing him. Tyler Adams is midfield is usually great but now his lateral movement is shaky from injuries

The USA are way too high - they will be lucky to score versus Paraguay and will likely go into our game without a win in 2026. Paraguay are very stingy but turkey and us will probably score against them on height and also quality by turkey. Turkey will beat the usa.

All three us opponents are cohesive and battle hardened the us have on paper high quality players but really have not performed well except in friendlies and concacaf minnows since 2023.

Turkiye look strong on paper and I am glad we play them first.A draw or win against them will worry the Seppos especially if they don't beat Paraguay.Toure and Nestory need to use their pace and strength and roam across the front line as I feel the Yank CBs may be an Achilles heel for them.Paraguay from all accounts are a good defensive unit.
It is an interesting group as no team is outstanding but at the same time none are minnows.

Turkiye's best two players (Guler and the captain) under injury clouds - both will make the squad but i doubt they play full games against us in the opener.
