World Cup 2026 Australia thread

It's not only about money. The conditions have presented themselves with that opportunity due to the insane heat last summer. Remember when the bench players were sent to the sheds? They don't want a repeat of that.
The insane heat of summer.

And there was me thinking FIFA had reached it's absolute low point in Qatar, but no!

FIFA... always lowering the bar since 1930.

So explain why they aren't using temps on a match by match basis?

Because they can sell advertising. Did anyone die in Mexico or Spain or the US in previous tournaments?

Let me rephrase that previous post. It's a naked money grab masquerading as 'player welfare'.

Climate change? Or is that not happening anymore?

They should have considered temperatures better and maybe had more dome locations like Minnesota. Top facilities.

As others pointed out, if some teams get breaks and others don't then they'll cry foul. Just make it a blanket thing.

Qatar had aircon.

Which is why I didn't mention Qatar.

Also a half a degree, or let's be generous, a whole degree is hardly a reason to fuck up football as we know it.

Can you imagine the finals, including the world cup final, with mandatory breaks?

It's idiotic beyond belief.

I agree yet the temperatures at the CWC were really high. Sending players to the sheds is something new.

I hope you're joking?

When is enough enough for those rapacious bunch of pricks?
Apprently when big firms can spend more money more people are going to benefit so I can't wait for the staff at Budweiser to get more pay due to increased sales due to ads.

Of course it's not going to benefit those who need it most.

Like any big event there'll be a lot of temporary work. I do hope the hospitality industry sees it at least for the weeks of the tournament and just maybe some students or those in need of work can get it despite it being a band aid. It may lead to confidence to do something else.

Infantino will have "sold" advertising air time to Trump to send whatever message he wants to tell the world. Prepare for "ads" telling us how the US is the hottest country in the world right now with footage of boats being blown out of the water. This world cup will be the most vile and repulsive we've seen.

The advertisement industry will be the ones benefitting and a bit like the political thread, massive sums of money flowing in certain directions and it's simply a given.

Whether this has positive effects on the average citizen is something for the analysts to work out.

Well so far it’s having a negative effect on me.

It's sad because growing up I loved the world cup especially the qualifying with the Pinnacle being 05 there was such a sense of optimism as well but 20 years later world has just gotten worse

Germany 06 was the last proper world cup. Everything else has been surrounded by some flaw. The football has always been great and the fans turned up. 48 teams has truly ruined it.

Wait till they go to 64.

Really hope you are kidding
Of course I was. Consumers have a choice. What if everyone just didn't buy those products being marketed? Like the Balkan boycott of some supermarkets and petrol stations, it got a reaction.

I think 64 would be brilliant if 32 were in the main event and the other 32 were in some global version of a europa event

You make the world cup more inclusive, but you could also have regional coefficients where wins give your country more places at the top or 2nd tier.

Also have 3rd placed teams drop down into the knockouts
