I’m hurt by this loss because we coulda won. I’m sorry but the fact that we didn’t make subs until late in the second half, took off all of our midfield creativity for Emily van Egmond and kept on Caitlin Foord is why we lost. The reason is so clear cut. A lot of our players played well but the biased reffing helping Japan and the awful performance of Foordy on the left wing killed the game.
 
This loss probably killed our chances of growing Matildas Abroad and the ALW threads unfortunately. Would still love to expand it though, I’m happy to teach anyone anything if you’re interested in learning.

I mean, he comes with some serious pedigree within the womens game. He's coached at Arsenal, Juve, and Lyon and won titles at all those clubs, as well as a title with Melbourne City. Has win rates above 74% at 5 of the 6 clubs he has managed.

It's not like he's just walked into the job randomly. He has definitely earned his spot. He is a good manager. If he fails, it will most likely be due to the insistence on certain players playing.
 
This game is a reminder how the little details count, Japan took their chance and Australia didn’t.

Australia played well, I think Joe is making a difference as a coach especially tactically but if there is a further remind of how important technical skill is in football then I don’t know.

The Japanese based their game off technique and it’s not surprise they can play to such a high level especially their combination play, the more our focus is on that the better we can not only compete with countries like Japan but also beat them.

A good final regardless, fitting for final too.

He was crap at Lyon. They only won the league in a country that Lyon dominates in. He got shipped out of the UWCL too by an average Arsenal side that miraculously won the final against Barça.

Ange Postecoglou is currently out of a job but I don't think his ultra-attacking philosophy will work with the Matildas unfortunately, given our well-documented shot conversion woes and failure to find the back of the net.

Seriously? He was at Lyon for one season, and lost only 2 games all season. Yes Lyon dominate it, but that does not diminish his reign. If anything, there would have been more pressure on him to perform in that season and win the title.

No doubt not many expected Arsenal to win the comp at the start, but they won it. To lose to the eventual champions is no laughing matter. One could argue that the 2nd leg was bad, but every coach will have losses like that.

Not sure why you are against him so much when his stats and credentials prove that he has earned the right to be the coach. If he fails, I will judge just as hard as anyone, but to be this harshly critical so shortly into his reign is something else.
