asia have the second most amount of direct spots at six, behind europe with eleven

i’m not gonna pretend to know more than i do… but i’d say in terms of the way the women’s game is developing, it’s probably about right!? 🤷‍♀️

Other than Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Mexico and the US, most American teams are pretty crap. Africa has a few okay teams but Morocco and Nigeria are the only ones that are that good. South Africa might be better if they look at their diaspora though which is why we need to cap Annalise Rasmussen.

North Korea ran out 4-0 winners over Chinese Taipei in the second and last play-in match on the Gold Coast courtesy of a hat-trick from Hong Song-ok with goals in the 32nd, 49th and 68th minute, along with a goal from Kim Kyong-yong in the 52nd minute and become the last AFC side to qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup directly, with Chinese Taipei subsequently going through to the first phase of the inter-confederation playoffs alongside Uzbekistan.

Philippines defeated Uzbekistan 2-0 in the first Women's Asian Cup play-in match on the Gold Coast courtesy of goals to Angie Beard in the 47th minute and Jaclyn Sawicki in the 52nd minute to qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup, with Uzbekistan going through to the first phase of inter-confederation playoffs.
Angie Beard’s goal:

For those who don’t know, she used to be a Matilda. Born in Meadowbrook, Brisbane.

It will be interesting where the additional 16 places get allocated to for the 48 team Women's World Cup in 2031.

Four of the 48 places for the 2031 Women's World Cup will be going to the host nations of the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Jamaica, but the AFC should in theory be getting more places as they're transitioning from the Women's Asian Cup deciding qualification to a standalone model from the next edition onwards.

All the betting odds seem to be all in on Japan and Straya past 3 dollars.
I used to check betting odds despite not gambling myself but I’ve stopped doing so. They can be wildly inaccurate. At one point they thought Labor would win the 2024 NT election only for the CLP to win in a landslide that wiped Labor out of Darwin.
