Women's Asian Cup match discussion thread

Matchups for the semi-finals and play-in matches have now been confirmed, along with possible permutations for the final and are as follows:

Semi-finals
  • Matildas v China
  • South Korea v Japan
Play-in matches
  • North Korea v Chinese Taipei
  • Uzbekistan v Philippines
Final
  • Matildas/China v South Korea/Japan
My prediction is a Matildas vs Japan final. North Korea and the Philippines to make the World Cup.

North Korea and the Philippines to make the World Cup.
North Korea and the Philippines would qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup directly by winning their play-in matches but Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei still have a chance at qualification through the inter-confederation playoffs.

LET'S GO TILLIES!!! We need everyone to get behind the girls tonight for our semi against China! And remember: that TV record from the World Cup still stands! Even if that record isn’t broken I’m expecting an audience in the millions!

LET'S DO THIS!!!

Joe Montemurro has confirmed that both Steph Catley and Hayley Raso will be back for the Matildas in our semi-final against China, with Emily van Egmond also in line to receive her 170th cap, breaking Clare Polkinghorne's all-time appearances record.
I think we should take it slow. We need them fit for the final. We really missed Hayley Raso against South Korea.

As much as it’s annoying to see Emily van Egmond steal Daniela Galić’s spot in the squad, I’m very happy for the milestone she’s about to achieve. She’s a great person who’s had a long career, and overall is now a wife and mum. So big congrats to her!!!

I do wonder whether this will be her last game though. One could argue that the World Cup is only next year and the Olympics are only two years away, but realistically she should call time.

looks to be a very close contest coming up.
Asians never stop running - hope he starts Raso ! must put away the chances like any other game.
I kinda want Ras fit for the final though. As a Spurs fan I know that coming back too early can be a problem.

The Matildas have named the starting XI for our semi-final against China, with two changes made from the side which defeated North Korea in the quarterfinals. Steph Catley comes into the backline and Kyra Cooney-Cross makes her first start of our campaign, with Sam Kerr leading the line as captain. Mackenzie Arnold again starts between the sticks, with Emily van Egmond in line to break Clare Polkinghorne's all-time appearances record off the bench.

Looks like it’ll be 4-3-3.
