Alanna Kennedy can be a defensive midfield option in the absence of Kyra Cooney-Cross but ideally we should have brought on a striker to support Sam Kerr up front also.

Yes this is correct

I believe the “change of nation” forms can only be done once as well, which is probably why volpato is biding his time, as once he chooses Australia, even if only capped in friendlies (or not selected at all), he can’t go back to Italy. Just using current examples - I know he won’t hit the form warranted for an Italy call up

I think he’d be tied even before playing the friendly, yes. I might have this a bit wrong, but my understanding is you can only change your allegiance with FIFA once (provided you meet the competitive caps requirements, etc)

Angeball would be better for the Matildas especially against defensively-minded opposition like the Philippines and Montemurro's approach of total football doesn't always work.
