Women's Asian Cup match discussion thread

Can our reporters stfu and stop asking Iranian players about the war.

Of course they’re scared and upset.

Why risk putting them in a situation that could endanger them?
Do you think any of the reporters understand anything about football? What else are they going to ask a bunch of people who they dont even know what sport they play?

I mean.. I'm opening a can of worms here, but there's one word in the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup that stands out..

I am not justifying it but you know that most of the "news" coming out would be around the Iran national team... I wouldn't even know this tournament was on if not for here.... and I live and breath soccer.

Yeah, I'm probably going a step too far there.

But, I mean... honest question, do the men get asked these questions in the international windows?

The Matildas have named the starting XI for our second group game against Iran, with five changes made to the squad from opening day. Charlize Rule makes her Women's Asian Cup debut, with Chloe Lincoln again starting between the sticks.

They could ask football questions like about how the team played and how tough their opponents were, etc?

You should probably get Insta and follow the Tillies then. It's been advertised on TV and in the host cities too.

Hopefully if the Tillies make the final the final is advertised everywhere all the time so we can break that record set by the semi against England. That open top bus parade would be huge too.

South Korea with a 3-0 win over the Philippines in the early game to move to two wins from two after winning by the same scoreline in their opening game against Iran on Monday. They cement their place at the top of group A on six points, with a for and against of +6, with the Matildas needing to win by at least a six-goal margin to top the group at the conclusion of this matchday.

That should be doable but I doubt we will. It'll should be like 3–0 or 4–0 but probably more like 2–0 or 3–0 the way we played last time. South Korea we should beat either 1–0 or 2–0, knowing us probably 1–0 because Pepe will pick the wrong 11 and play defensive.

If we end up getting the job done against Iran as expected but don't get the rout today then our last group stage match against South Korea Sunday becomes winner takes all to determine who tops the group.

Japanese referee Asaka Koizumi officiating today's late game between the Matildas and Iran, with both assistant referees and the fourth official also from Japan. Jumpei Iida, also from Japan is in charge of VAR, with Fu Ming from China acting as AVAR for today's match.
