Women's Asian Cup general discussion thread

Anyone randomly decided to not watch the A-League today just to prep the hype for the Asian Cup? Or just me knowing that Sydney FC play shit against NZ teams?
Sydney FC currently leading Wellington Phoenix 1-0 in the second half of their A-League Men game but the hype for the Women's Asian Cup is still very much real.

It's a shame this tournament is on Paramount+. I get that they are trying to make money and all, but honestly, what a chance to showcase the womens game, and they've missed it. Even the Matildas games are behind a pay wall. Like, after all that momentum we had with the World Cup, to host another big event and then have it hidden, it's ridiculous.

The Matildas games are also on 10. You only need Paramount+ for the games involving other teams (teams that will really only interest true football fans and Asians, and thus would not be a huge hit with the casual Matildas fan).

When I searched up our next game, the only details I found was that of Paramount+.

I know it wouldn't garner the biggest audiences, but they have multiple 10 channels now. One of them just shows reruns of Friends, Big Bang Theory, and Becker. Surely for a few weeks, people won't miss that. Events like this can drag in the general public. They are not going to spend money to watch the games, but if flicking through the channels and a game is on, you are more likely to watch it.

If anyone has any online links for other games during the tournament I've been told you are encouraged to post them here so I can watch.

I agree. Just chuck it on that purple one or whatever. That Bangladesh distance shot was class.

The games are on youtube in Germany. Catch 22 is the AFC have blocked VPNs to view their youtube games. Does this strea work in Australia? Can't be tested with an Aus VPN due to the block.

Essentially if a TV company has the rights then the Youtube stream won't work in that country. This was an issue in Men's qualifying as Sportdigital had German TV rights.

Vietnam India crowd looks alright. The tournament deserves to be afforded the best facilities but I think some even smaller grounds would have offered a better experience.

Crowds were decent for the 2015 tournament. Today I'd like to think Uzbekistan Saudi would get 20k and not 10k given the awareness of how improved Uzbekistan have become.

Blocked in Australia.

The way in which tickets are being released for sale for this tournament is awful and frustrating. I got tickets to Matildas v Sth Korea in December and now (2 days before the game) there are tons of extra tickets getting released in much better spots then what was available back then. Appears that the same thing happened with the Gold Coast and Perth games.

Looking at the tables it's clear the third place team qualifying is a bit ambitious. At the moment none of them have any points
It’s a 12 team tournament FFS, there should be no 3rd-placed teams going through, but you have to have quarter-finals so…………Should just be the three group winners and the best 2nd-placed team go directly through to semis……….

Yeah I'm not sure the tournament is ready for 12 teams. I would've had it at 8, top 2 from each go to semis.

I hate for some events you simply click your block and can't manually choose your seat. You get in the moment the tickets are released as you never know how quickly they may be sold only for the booking system give you row A seat 1 FFS.

Australia at Wembley I was lower tier against the wall under a colourbond hoarding. At least everyone had fun banging it for noise.

The Iranian women’s soccer team saluted during the national anthem tonight amid fears they could face jail or even death upon their return to the Middle East.

I feel so sorry for what’s going on. I hope the crowd was sitting for the Iranian anthem to show solidarity. And more importantly I hope the players are okay and able to seek asylum.
