Useless but interesting football stats

Thanks Richie - you bet.
Knowing your fav sport cricket its like seeing a young promising Tendulkar hit the bigtime on debut, or the Don Or Dan Craig I recall reading about long ago but you know who really got me - Hooksey !

As for young Rio 16+361days is the youngest ever in the league to score on debut !
Comes on as a sub late away pressure cooker game and puts away a composed well placed strike inside the far post winna !
What cohonas

Which English club has never been relegated?
Scrub that question!
They have been relegated once.
Change it to: which club conned their way into First Division after WWI despite only finishing 6th in the 1915 Second Division ?

Josh Risdon has only scored twice for Perth Glory.
On both occasions, the score at the time was 2-2, and his goal was the winning goal that gave Perth the 3-2 win.
That is ridiculously interesting

In the A-League (men), the most goals scored by a player as a % of all goals scored by the team in one season is 52% (as in, one player scored 52% of the team's goals that season).
In the A-League (women), the most goals scored in a season as a % of all goals scored by the team in one season is 56%

Wanna guess the teams and players?

I'm going to use the Golden Boot chart as a cheat (although I'm going to also take a guess it wasn't a golden boot winning season for that player) and take a stab at either Bobo for Sydney, or one of Jamie Maclaren's seasons. But then I saw something else (Which I will get into with the women's guess).

First player I thought of for the womens side, was Sam Kerr, so just looking at her season stats, Perth 2018-19.
Then as I saw that, I noticed/remembered that Taggart won the Golden Boot in a wooden spoon season for Perth a couple seasons ago?

Good guesses, but no.

For the men, it was
Shane Smeltz who scored 12 out of Wellington's 23 goals in the 2008/09 season
Interestingly, in 2nd place it was another player from
Wellington
,
Jeremy Brockie, who scored 16 out of their 31 goals in the 2012/13 season
Those are the only instances in the Men's league where a single player scored >50% of the teams goals.

In the women, it was
Michelle Heyman, who scored 15 out of Canberra's 27 goals in the 2011/12 season
.

There have been 5 other instances of a player scoring >= 50% of the team goals in the Womens league;
Tara Andrews, who scored 7 out of Newcastle's 13 goals in 2010/11
Veronica Latsko, who scored 9 out of Adelaide's 17 goals 2018/19
, the exact same numbers as for
Natasha Dowie for Victory in 2016/17
and last of all,
Sam Kerr scored 13 out of 25 and 17 out of 34 goals for Perth Glory in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons respectively.

UEFA have ruled that Slovakia will be officially recognised alongside Czechia as winners of EURO 1976! 🏆The tournament was won by Czechoslovakia on penalties after the game finished 2-2 with West Germany.

Since then, UEFA had always deemed Czechia as the sole winner. But that has now been changed to recognise Slovakia as well.

Ok, at least I got one of the top 5 in the womens hahaha

I've always wondered if that would ever happen.
Perhaps Ukraine will now be given some of the USSR's record!

Interesting - I think it's the only case of a country having won something before splitting, and then the other nations existing? Except for USSR, they won a Euro too, didn't they? Their stats are all attributed to Russia, so I wonder if the other 14 countries are considered Euro winners too?!

this kind of change after so much water under the bridge means poop though - I suppose the FAssociation and country finally have a badge of honour but yer - so far back most people would go great but nothing much else.
Does the Association get any $ compensation in this case ?

It'd be interesting to see which nationalities played for the USSR. You go from Estonia all the way down to the Orient.

I tried doing a little dive of this a while back when adding in a USSR All-Star team from a mod for eFootball / PES 2021 - that had 4 (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and I think there was even one Uzbekistan in it)

Yugoslavia got a Gold medal in the Olympics didnt they?
