Travelogue

Just booked tickets to Taipei for 2 weeks in January. Anyone been?

I did a monster trip from Dallas to Sydney in one of those without stopping. Amazing range.
Dreamliner is great but the A380 just has a nostalgic feel and feels more comfortable for me. I think the general consensus is A380 is more spacious while the Dreamliner is a bit quieter and potentially more comfortable.

A friend of mine recently flew from London to San Francisco on United. They upgraded him to business class pre flight and he was so chuffed that he instagrammed everything that happened on the flight. The business class lounge, the business class cabin, the drinks, the food....himself sitting in business class......

Some time later that day his house was burgled.....

Arghhhh...

Never put your holidays on Instagram until you get home......
Still remember moaning as a kid that my friend's family answering machine didn't tell me they'd gone on holiday. My dad said you'd just never announce that as randoms would dial numbers to see why a kind of activity was happening at a residence to rob.

Also interesting to see some bag tags showing all the personal details. I find it interesting purely from a geographic sense and wonder where that town is in Iowa that I read. Crazy you could just approach them and say 'I know your door is yellow.'

Wife wants to do a Hunter Valley winery tour....

Anyone got any recommendations on this and other things to do in the region?

Probably a 3 or 4 day excursion....

If your a golfer 2 Ripa courses for 9holes so as the wife doesn’t mind haha then again she join you in the cart the scenery is sensational.
Plan each day by lunch and dinners simple enough.
Have a good one it’s a great place to enjoy the Aussie bush scene eat drink be merry and take in the scene.

That’s probably what we'll do. Book a couple of winery bus tours. Where you can have a few drinks and not worry about driving.

Travel plans for 2026? Got small Yorkshire visit in Feb. Not much else expected this year. Maybe some decent 96 away days.

I have about 4 biz trips to Asia to cover Thailand Malaysia Taiwan Vietnam - will take the wife stay a number days each time.
May head to Italy as spring hits.
July have a Japan trip booked with the fam.
Need to get to China 1 or 2 times.
August on get to Chile Mexico USA and MEast.

I've just been to France for 3 weeks.

Was winter and cold of course but had an absolutely wonderful time. Spent a lot of time in the Rhone Valley and the French Alps.

Lyon is right there and is a fantastic city, superb for gastronomic enthusiasts and history buffs. Wonderful architecture and very 'artsy'....And it has a 'baby' Paris feel about it. Only 2 hours from Paris on the TGV for about €60 return. (A$100)

I'm giving some serious thought to buying an apartment in Lyon city centre and going to live there for a few years or so....

You can get a very nice 2/3 bedroom heritage apartment in a great location for around €5-600K. Just need to convince wife....😋

Great football environment...could go and watch Olympic Lyon one week and St. Etienne, which is only 40 mins by train the next!!

very nice Ful - easy close travelling from the UK.
Cold though obviously - not my cup to tea but you got to experience it if you can.
A$1M + 2/3bedder and small I imagine -
We enjoyed a Jan winter in Paris few years back with the fam - NYE ate near the Eiffel Tower and started to snow lightly - was a highlight for the young uns.
Stayed in St Germain area, really cool area and luv walking the streets late and feasting on the street crepes etc.

Get pissed and go to a Jets game, they go to the valley to not do anything usually
The trick is to squeeze in all of the romantic wine and lunch and picnic and profiteroles and champagne and wrought iron table stuff and after that she's feeling good enough to allow you to take her to a good old fashioned Noocassell Jets game. Trust me, this works.

I’ve done many away games by convincing the wife it’s a romantic getaway and the Jets just happen to be playing there at the same time 🤣
