A new restaurant chain in New York City is hiring Filipino hostesses via Zoom screens instead of in-person staff, taking advantage of wage differences between NYC’s $16 minimum wage and Philippines’ $3.75 hourly pay.

Sansan Chicken, Sansan Ramen, and Yaso Kitchen locations in Manhattan, Queens, and Jersey City still prompt customers for 18% tips.

Pie, a 33-year-old hostess working from Subic, Philippines for Happy Cashier company, simultaneously manages three restaurants from her living room.

She splits tips with managers and kitchen staff, once receiving $40 from Jersey City customers.

Tech entrepreneur Brett Goldstein warns these remote workers could be replaced by AI avatars within 6-12 months.

A similar thing is that there's a Spanish restaurant on Brisbane's South Bank called 'Ole' which I used to go to all the time that got rid if it's waitresses and had QR code only ordering. When I told the manager that I only order from waiters or waitresses, he got really snooty about it...More or less saying that "if I didn't like it then take a hike"!!!

Which I did....

I walked across the footbridge over the ruver and went to Pompette bistro at the Queens Wharf developement which is a bit more expensive but at least has waiters and waitresses....

I always laugh at the somewhat dismissive pushy way eateries announce its QR code only 'hey guys come in so we've got just QR code, yeah? There, just order there. OK bye.'

To be fair Wetherspoons in the UK is decent with the app as their staffing levels for making and running drinks is excellent but I do prefer going to the bar.

It's generally not the restaurant's fault but the software developer with the tip pop ups. Maybe it can be turned off but it's probably a generic step of the software. Not like the restaurants don't enjoy the chance to get extra tips. Until customers really state that's part of the reason for not going, they won't hire servers anymore. I get they may also struggle to find them which is separate issue.

The worst is places with damaged QR codes and scrappy sites that also want some kind of registration or authentication and if you just want something quick or small then forget it.

Hardly there but the self serve kiosks at McDonald's have just overwhelmed staff. I'm referring to German ones and I know Australian stores may have issues too but I've found them still to have much better efficiency for peak times.

Basically all the orders fly in from the kiosks at once and the kitchen just can't keep it. Their menus are too bespoke and the kiosks allow every type of specification. At the same time I don't get why they don't have a decent number of common burgers sitting under the heated light. They'll be gone in minutes. The Big Macs and cheeseburgers were piled up and sold like hotcakes
 
On the rare occasions I take my kids to fast food restaurants I keep my uncool Dad card up to date by breezing past all the people tappity tapping on the screen and stride straight up to the counter where the 15 year old is probably thinking ' why can't this old cunt just use the screens like everyone else? " :D

There'll be more to investigate and cross check but the X feature showing location and a page's origin reveals a lot of pages aren't located where they claim to be. ABC says Ireland. Claims it's for taxes. Vpn use can also change it apparently. Channel 9 said USA. I reckon the users need vpns to access certain footage on the device used. Probably nothing sinister there.

The big thing is a lot of pages claim to be localised where something is happening only to be thousands of kilometres away. Someone claiming to be in Ukraine based in Bangladesh. Gaza but in Indonesia.

Musk has deleted the location feature because huge swathes of MAGA accounts were shown to be from everywhere but America.

90% of them probably troll farm employees.

Shows the flaws across the board and how much shite there is out there.

At the same time, some of these pages are relaying information from the source of the event in that they've received it from somewhere else. While this can increase awareness of something it may make certain topics unnecessarily louder on the algorithm. Click one post these days and suddenly you're in. I had to click not interested on so much and apparently I was a big Scottish football fan after they qualified.

I always wondered how those people reporting from Gaza could do that in the middle of a war with all sides blockaded. Now I know that they were never there.
 
Can anyone task the mystical AI executive assistant with counting how much the word crowd(s) appear on this forum as opposed to the word football ?
 
I was reading something today saying that once AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is up and running then anything AI has been doing will seem like dial up internet in comparison....

Whereas AI learns from massive, labeled datasets to identify patterns. It struggles to apply knowledge outside its specific, trained context.

AGI learn's independently, adapting to novel, unseen situations with minimal instruction.and would possess human-level reasoning, common sense, and the ability to comprehend context, nuances, and abstract concepts. In other words it actually thinks for itself and doesn't particularly require human input along the way....

Now my sister-in-law, a senior administration employee of Brisbane City Council reckons AI will decimate the 'lanyard class'....

Including herself, which she says she doesn't mind because she's fed up and wouldn't mind being made redundant!

The "lanyard class" is a term used to describe a professional, often urban, managerial class of workers who wear ID badges (lanyards) around their necks, symbolising a specific, bureaucratic, and white-collar mindset.....

It's a somewhat politically derogatory term and I was surprised my 'left-leaning' sister-in-law used it, but after 30+ years working in the bureaucratic system I think she's been ground down by it all....

Anyway kids anyone looking to a future career in the world of public services administration, it might be a good idea to look for something a little bit different!!

My super friendly barber is doing alright....he charged me $42 today for a 10 minute haircut. He did the two in front of me in 15 minutes.....

He's got a lovely Lexis RX350 sitting in the sidelane of his shop!!

Robots won't be trusted to cut people's hair for a while yet!!!
