The Western United Thread

Please, I live in Sydney & work at grassroots football, very much involved in the football community as a coach & an administrator & we have involvement with our local NPL team & the A-League.
The team SMFC doesn't come up in any of our conversations, so not sure how you get the dislike bit, I have no dealings or care for SMFC. I have no idea of what reddit has anything to do with it likes & dislikes etc. I do not have any feelings for SMFC, so how can I dislike it.

This is an A-League forum & I come here to discuss A-League stuff, good & bad. I don't think the Admin, suits of the APL are doing a good job, but I enjoy the A-League, just like maybe some SMFC fans maybe thought the NSL admin & suits were not doing a great job but got on with following the NSL because their team was in it.
There is an NPL forum, I rarely visit as I haven't the interest or the knowledge to contribute.
But some SMFC fans come onto the A-League forum & talk sh!t.
The A-League has it's faults but we have made 6 world cups in a row under the A-League reign, yes no doubt on the back of many ex NSL players, but also with Lowy money bringing in Guus to replace Frank Farina, plus moving to Asia, where we get full competition.
I'm a believer of being pro something not against something, maybe you should try it.
Surprising that someone who "works at grassroots football,", is BOTH a coach and an administrator with involvement with an NPL has no knowledge of the NPL.....

AH re Robbos, just let it go mate...

Hahahhaha.....Dont know about the others but im utterly convinced and have been censored back into my place! Banned to the pro NSL forum I go!
You just make sure to keep flying those colours and proudly there champ!
May I suggest though, that perhaps you ask during your 'involvement with your local NPL side' what they think about the game in this country the answer may suprise your bubble!
Embarrasing.

1) Why Preston specifically?

Well I was going to say either Preston or Avondale if they were going to replace WU with a VIC based team. Both teams seems to have decent backing… either financially or fans.

I went to both BT Connor Reserve and the Reggio Calabria Club this year to watch the Vuck Youth play. Avondale have issues with NIMBYs at the Reggio Calabria Club. If they wanna play in a bigger stadium one day, they will likely have to move. But BT Connor Reserve appears to have room for growth/stadium expansion.

Ahhh Mono's here.

let me help with your lack of comprehension, I work as a coach & administrator for a grassroots club & we have interaction with both the local NPL club & the local A-League, but I don't follow the NPL club in their competitions & hence have no input or knowledge to privide in the NPL forum.

Nothing cynical my friend.

I know the state of the game in this country & it's not great, but not because SMFC is not in the A-League and it's never been great even when SMFC was in the NSL.

What's your stance in p and r robbos?
All for it, but I don't make decisions.

I would love to have a pyramid football competition like we do all around the world.

I'm all for a united football community where grassroots football led up to top tier of football & it was connected.
I'm all for A-League club academies & connection with grass roots football, I'm all for a centre of excellence & a proper coaching academy.
However, I don't make the decisions, football in this country has never been united, football has never had the suits in power that make the right decisions.
Imagine if FIFA used it's power, influence (including political) & money to make this sport huge in Australia, but no like our admin, FIFA is incompetent.

To be fair, that’s not FIFA’s job.

Doesnt change the fact that the promise sold (and swallowed it seems) was that expulsion was going to make the game great.. yet here we are!
100% agree, it hasn't delivered, there has been some great moments, 6 consecutive Worlds cups including 2 appearances into the 2nd round, the Asian cup, 67K for Sydney Derby & still close to capacity today, plus some sellouts in Melbourne for Melbourne derbies & Melbourne v Sydney over the years, Ange & Roarlona, though Ange good enough would've succeeded in whatever competition we had.

The A-League was pushing mainstream however, same old problem as in the last 50 years, both real & alleged crowd trouble stopped the momentum & then some serious suits errors has pushed us back we are today.

Look you & I are no different, we want the same thing for football in this country, there are lots football fans in this country, but we are not united, our only difference is that for me in 50 years of following the game in this country we have never had a United football community, you seem to think we did prior to the A-League, which I disagree.

Interesting scenario, Robbos.

I would have thought the NPL senior team would have induced your support?

During winter when NPL senior club is playing mainly, I coach my women's team all Sunday & when commitment permits me I catch the grassroots premier league team on the Saturday.
I also have a wife (when is it enough football) & kids.

Good on you doing all the community football work and coaching, Robbos!

Volunteers are essential for football in Aus. Clubs need people like you.

Thanks for your efforts. I've been there!
