Definitely not brothers but would rather clubs like that around then those pathetic franchises 😂

Good riddance.
I think the Israelis could take a leaf from your book. Very heartwarming

If it was trully about the "west" like they claim they would have put their money into joining forces with Melbourne Knights down at somers st. The Knights were all for it provided WU funded the upgrade of the stadium, would have given the venue continious 12 months of use and in the end a win-win for both parties. Of course that wasnt in line with the clubs dodgy vision in Tarneit.

To be honest when they tried to muscle into Lakeside i think South would have played ball with them and let them in if they werent a bunch of snakes going behind the clubs back.

If the A league dies, there is no way back in this country.
although I think it’s unlikely to die, if it ceased to exist the last thing that would happen would be a new flourishing league starts for existing clubs

The most likely scenario would be state level comps become the top level football in the country and over the years those clubs actually become weaker and lose money as player numbers dwindle as there is nothing for players to work themselves up to playing, and kids won’t be paying 2500 to register etc. Would be a massive knock on effect

It would be impossible to see any decent investment to get a national comp up and running for decades

Like it or lump the best case scenario is a league remains and we work in the national second division into a pyramid. But for that everyone needs to come together

So, the Knights were all for it, as long as they didn't have to spend any money ? Is that what you are saying ? I doubt the FFA at the time would have approved it.

The question I never understood from the start was where the money was coming from. And a second question: what is motivating these guys? Because from the outside the whole thing looked like insanity right from the start.

What I can't abide is that the individuals who made the logically inexplicable decision to admit WU to the competition are not being held to account in any way.
I think that the individuals who made the decision are no longer at the APL or FA.

Now you are just plain wrong, my motive is to see the failure of the aleague in order for a combined structure to come to life for the good of all of us and the game!
Love your passion for Football, however IMO your logic pertaining to what's happens to Australian professional Football if the A-L dies is wrong.

We need all levels of Football to grow and hand on heart not the other thing despite all the many issues and a mega long "To Do List " the A-L is by a long way the most successful competition we have ever had.

IMO the two single biggest issues for Football in Australia are, getting respect for Australian professional Football by those who support Football, and second to end the endless civil wars and present a united front.

If we do this P n R will happen as we grow, to demand it happen will loose more fans than it will attract

Yeah that's where I get confused. I understand you need everyone pulling in the right direction with two leagues p and r but I don't understand how we get there now with the lack of interest.

If anything a league, championship and aus cup needs to get people interested so there's demand for it. Isn't it?
Ive heard some people say that what they mean by the a league dying is that they want the regulatory structure to die

What do you mean by ‘regulatory structure’ ?
If you mean the separation of the A League from the rest of the pyramid then, yes, I do want that to die.
I don’t believe football can move forward until the pyramid is formed.

I can't speak for others but I believe yes partly the closed shop and partly the minimum requirements like stadium standards

I have said it before, we cannot afford the American franchise system so the best outcome is to close down the A League as it stands, allow any of the owners to play a team in a standardised pro/semi pro league (possibly a version of the Championship) without all the ( expensive) bells and whistles and go from there.
I certainly don’t want to see players disadvantaged but, at the moment, professional football is going nowhere.

The obsession in this country of shutting down leagues is pathetic. Football around the world has being going for over 100 years and apart from the NSL and the NASL , all the leagues have survived with all sorts of ups and downs, some way worse than the current A league. The Scottish league has as many problems as we do, but no one ever calls for it to be shut down.

The only ones that I hear in Australia calling for shut downs are the ex NSL supporters.

We have youth coming through and into the shop window of the aleague. From there the best are being selected (or at least considered) for Australian rep and other countries, and for overseas contracts.

Professional football is going where it should go.

Players are getting contracts, playing football at a good level of competition, and making a career out of it.

Fuck the doom and gloom. Professional football is doing exactly what professional football should be doing.

It is the break between other levels and the aleague that is broken - not the league itself. The financial state of the league is botched and clubs are doing it with less financial support (tv deal) so they put on more youth and 'no names'. That in itself is also not a bad thing.

As long as players aim to play in the aleague, it is doing fine. I am sure that the Western United players would much rather have their club still running and jobs than not and I am equally sure plenty of up and coming players would have jumped at the chance of a contract.

Of course, what you say is true and I, for one, want that to continue but the league is, as it stands, is financially unsustainable. That is what it needs to come to terms with.

Says who it is unsustainable ? Clubs will cut their cloth to suit, like they have been doing since Covid. This is what you need to come to terms with, instead of acting like some high-end CEO.
