The Suits thread

Looks like economic reality has arrived. If these players & their agents & the greedy PFA think that riding the coat tails of the World Cup is reflective of the local game financial situation they are sadly mistaken.
Not sure on the 'greedy' bit. Years ago there was a BR youth player who quit altogether because he said that wages were barely living wages (IIRC). There is a balance where professional players have to earn enough to sustain them through their careers and immediately post career. Otherwise the league becomes semi-professional.

The question is whether the clubs are being straight when they say they can't afford what the PFA wants.
Given the abysmal TV deal, I'm inclined to believe them.
The PFA need to take care that they don't kill off the comp here.

No idea how much Silver Lake take but with APL paying for the broadcast and callers, it leaves little for the clubs.

On top of running the a-league clubs also need to run a women's side and have an academy.

I think APL pay travel and accommodation expenses for teams travelling by plane.

Simply put the league as a whole is a long way short of the revenue needed to support the club's.

are we trapped in travel deals, repayment deals to silverlake etc?

Just quietly, this dispute has the potential to be the straw that breaks the A League camel's back.

From my pov, the clubs have no stretch and the PFA have - very unwisely- put themselves in a corner.

So, either the clubs confess that they are lying, or the PFA cave. No winners here.

Simple solution, dump the women's teams, they are unnecessary drain on the clubs finances.

Yep from a business perspective it is unsustainable….
No diff to a slow sinking ship - cast off the weight you don’t need to stay afloat longer.
Business is business.

I’m amazed by all the Matilda fapping last 10+yrs and all those girlies and mums there screaming away why don’t they turn up to W games and keep those harmonics there where they belong :) haha
