sucks.

If he is fully fit, they're looking solid.
I guess it gives Grimaldi a go. He has been in decent preseason form.

Hopefully we get a firing Velupillay back in a couple of months. Though I recall he took a while to refind form after his last injury.

While i don't know for certain, it feels like we are tracking higher than last year.

Hopefully that means a few more bums on seats. Auckland set the tone last season.

Melbourne Victory’s fifth annual Member Forum took place at AAMI Park on Thursday, October 9.

Hosted in the Olympic Park Room at AAMI Park, the event delivered an opportunity for members to experience direct, face-to-face, and unfiltered dialogue with the Club’s hierarchy on the eve of the 2025/26 A-League Men’s and A-League Women’s seasons.

On the stage, fielding pre-submitted questions before engaging in an open-floor question and answer session were Managing Director, Caroline Carnegie, Director of Football, John Didulica, Men’s Head Coach, Arthur Diles, and Women’s Head Coach, Jeff Hopkins.

The format allowed a wide variety of topics to be addressed, with Carnegie expressing her gratitude to supporters, following membership numbers passing 20,000, and reiterating the importance of growing crowds at AAMI Park and the Home of the Matildas to impact on-field performance positively.

Carnegie also provided a progress report on the Northern Campus project with Mitchell Shire Council, advising that Victory expects to break ground in the first half of 2026, which is increasingly exciting as we edge towards 52-week contracts in our Women’s program, off the back of finally being granted an NPLW Senior and U20s licence from next year.

Didulica commented on the arrival of World Cup winner Juan Mata, highlighting the Spaniard’s humility and the exceptional reference point he provides to the emerging talent he is training alongside.

A high-profile addition to Diles’ squad, the Men’s First Team Head Coach seconded this glowing endorsement of Mata, as well as expressing his excitement at the off-season recruitment within the constraints of the salary cap.

Diles made no secret of his determination to continue his attacking ethos, targeting more points and more goals in the upcoming campaign.

On the Women’s side, Hopkins explained how last season’s Grand Final defeat is fuelling the hunger of his team to go one better, and that the levels in training are tracking well for this stage of pre-season.

Below is an overview of the key areas covered:

A-League Men’s
Diles is happy with the busy off-season activity, bolstering his squad’s experience within the fluid Australian football climate. He remains confident in his attacking players but expects goal contributions from the whole team.

The Club is proud to have a sizeable core of local talent representing Victory on the pitch, with 17 of the 27-player squad being Melburnians.

It was confirmed that regular injury updates will be provided this season, with the first one to land ahead of the team’s round one fixture.

Victory remains vindicated in its decision to play all home matches at AAMI Park, following the departure from Marvel Stadium, with Carnegie emphasising that feedback from our members is clear - fans prefer to attend fixtures in a purpose-built rectangular stadium.

A-League Women’s
Hopkins is excited for the new season, his 10th in charge of Victory, and explained that the new signings have hit the ground running. This combined with the existing players displaying a hunger to go one better following the Grand Final loss, holds the team in good stead to target silverware this season.

Hopkins added that with the new NPLW licences, and an increased FT coach and off-field team this season dedicated to our A-League Women's program, it is of great pleasure to see the women’s game come on in such leaps and bounds as the level of competition continues to grow.

Carnegie outlined the sense of connection, which playing and training at an elite and premier facility for the women provides, and Hopkins seconded that this is a key factor in the decision to continue to play most women’s matches at the Home of the Matildas.

Academy
After being in NPL3 following COVID-19, Didulica highlighted the collective effort to improve Victory’s Academy programs, of which 3,500 young players are involved each year. He emphasised the necessary balance regarding player trading, citing the considerable transfer fees received for Academy graduates like Kasey Bos and Franco Lino.

New senior and U20s teams will enter NPLW competition in 2026, as the Club simultaneously moves closer to a 52-week program. Players from 16 years old can now be part of Victory’s setup, attracting more talented young players.

Fan Engagement
The Club’s Fan Engagement Plan will be released prior to Round 1, whilst considerations continue around exciting, themed rounds that will help generate interest and excitement for attendees. It was noted, that while the Club always holds a ‘kids go for free’ round – historically this has not resulted in any significant uplift in attendance.

Dialogue with AAMI Park security is ongoing to ensure they understand football culture. This education piece is for the benefit of the entire Victory family regarding the match day experience.

We continue to work with all stakeholders relating to policing and security to ensure they understand their role with the Club on a match day, and that they have an appreciation for, and understanding of, football culture. This is always going to be an evolving part of educating others on our game, but one which we know is critical to ensuring a great match experience for the Victory family.

The Club confirmed it is not in a position to petition Football Australia to overturn the specific bans the FA issued following conduct (which was recorded visually and with audio) that breached the Code of Conduct at our Shepparton NPL game during the 2025 NPL season. It was reiterated that the bans are limited to those that breached the Code, and the North Terrace is in no way sanctioned or banned and remains an important part of the Club.

Tony Bloom
Carnegie stated that Tony is a true unicorn in football. He is genuinely motivated to help grow the game locally, and the Club, which has a connection to Melbourne through his wife. With Paul Barber also joining the Board, we are excited to be at the very beginning of our journey together.

Didulica also mentioned that the Club is working closely with Jamestown Analytics across both the Men’s and Women’s programs. This partnership adds an exciting new dimension for Victory.
