The Medical Room - Injury Updates

Our best scenario is McGree over-reacted and didn't tear the muscle. Sometimes the muscle is tight, sore or cramping which may have made McGree think he'd torn it/be cautious.
That's exactly what I'm hoping.

Sky now reporting they'd been told he was an injury concern before the game and now this happens. Bordering negligence from the manager but he looked fine and could've come off 5min later.

It's definitely 50/50 on what happens with McGree, could be better but definitely could be worse.

Let's say he does miss out, who starts in his place? Metcalfe? Quite a step down. McGree was suppose to be our catalyst for our Bos, Toure, Irankunda counter-attack.

I haven’t seen enough of Robertson to give a fair assessment, but one thought I have is whether he is someone who could be a success in the attacking midfield role?

Yeah I just suggested that in the World Cup Squad thread. I think it's the best option. He is far better than Metcalfe and way more productive in an attacking role and can actually score.

Nisbet is vertically challenged - but physically very strong.
I know Poppa's probably a bit busy but would be wonderful to have "A Day with Poppa" on this forum to hear all the answers to questions like" how important is physicality", "where's Cam?" etc from the horse's mouth.' I suspect he doesn't pick Nisbet because he's only 5'3"(1.60m) (Josh not Tony:unsure:)), but it's only a guess. Coaches can be very idiosyncratic. Look at Tuchel with England, his 26 recently announced with quite a few shocks. Reckon the odds of 10, even 20 or maybe even 50 managers picking the same 26 or the same 11 from the same pool of players are really, really low.

Baccus is the biggest loser of the Popovic era. Somewhat feel he's been found out but I also had high hopes for his play and growth. Some frustratingly casual and negligent Australia displays made me want O'Neill instead and now O'Neill is Mr complacent.
Yeah I agree, thought he was a player who could really develop further. No doubting his commitment and competitiveness, but that also meant he was a potential red card.

McGree went off on 75min after pulling up and grasping at his hamstring. He ran alongside and opponent then hopped and grabbed. He was down for a couple of minutes then stood up and walked down the tunnel.

Body language wasn't the best and you could see he wished he could continue but also wasn't able to according to the coach.
"My pills, where are my pills!!!"

Absolutely. He's the most skilful ball player we have. Assist for

... Behich v Japan is perfect example. There's no-one in the current frame who can match him. Personally I'd go for a real wildcard and bring in Max Burgess (Newcastle Jets)
Or Clayton Taylor. Per Google AI:
"Max Burgess and young academy prospect Will Dobson were the primary attacking midfielders who thrived for the Newcastle Jets under head coach Mark Milligan. [1, 2, 3]
Mark Milligan utilized a fluid, high-energy midfield system that allowed multiple players to push forward and contribute to a league-high scoring record. Key attacking contributors for the Jets included: [1, 2]
  • Max Burgess: Brought into the squad to add creative flair in the attacking midfield and central playmaking roles.
  • Will Dobson: The 18-year-old academy graduate stepped up as one of the most effective attacking midfielders under Milligan's relentless, attacking system.
  • Clayton Taylor & Lachie Bayliss: While sometimes deployed on the wings, these players frequently rotated into the half-spaces and central attacking midfield positions to support Milligan's offensive tactics. [1, 2, 3, 4]"

Any update on McGree?
If it was Metcalfe/Hrustic/Boyle then I wouldn't be too worried but we need McGree
No. We're probably going to have to suffer 3 days of silence now. They'll do a scan and then we'll know more.

Popovic may even want to use this to keep opponents guessing.

I suppose McGree didn't punch the ground so hopefully it suggests something much lighter.

D'Agostino is out of the World Cup squad with a leg injury per FA media. They didn't elaborate further.
Woke up a bit earlier and thought 'I'll quickly check feed for a McGree update.' Heart sank when I saw a big Roos news post to then see it was D'Agostino. These updates show dignity to every player as they're all team members.

Monday is popular for news so I expect the final fly ins will be named despite 3 being very obvious and then we'll have some players being omitted. I think Borrello and Caceres for sure.
