The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

didn't dominate shots on target though or quality of chances

another strong win for football vic

should we be lobbying for every state to connect as many levels of the pyramid in their state as they can?

If a few other states were as strong as vic it would be almost impossible to stop an nst
I really think/hope it’s already gonna be hard to go back from this point and not push on with a proper league. Imo more than enough has been shown to prove it’s viability

Not really. The main point remains that there aren't enough clubs that meet the criteria for a proper league. At least not yet anyway. The question now is will this experience inspire some clubs to make the criteria. Or have they actually enjoyed this experience as it is and feel that winning their league and gaining the opportunity to compete in this tournament is enough?

The main positive though is that, yes, there is an appetite for 'something' inbetween NPL and A League and it can move forward. Perhaps it could be expanded to a 24 team comp to get more clubs involved as a pathway to finally creating the NST.

Not saying we need a 24 team NST - just saying that a championship in the sort of model we currently have that could expose more clubs to next level football might inspire some of them to invest in getting themselves to another level.

RoyalDave true what your saying but wouldn’t you think that’s what the FA are viewing as well other Clubs who didn’t make the cut criteria and seeing where they need to be in the future.
I would certainly hope so

yeah I mean on top of a home and away nst of course

some npls dont have p&r, some have a closed shop below 3 divisions etc

That will be huge!! Hopefully the powers that be dont screw it up and give us the best date/time and they will get thw biggest crowd they have seen at any NPL/championship game!.
The quarters are already scheduled for 1pm and 3pm across a Saturday and Sunday.

I bet if its south v preston they put heidelberg on the same day to dilute the crowd.

With Victoria being so far ahead of their rivals, I'm curious how big the gap is between nsw and the other three biggest states - QLD, SA and WA. Looking at head to heads this champtionship. Results probably skewed by su58s rough championship campaign mind u....

Bad loss for Spirit, 3-0 down in a game they dominated lol.

Looks like its going to be South v Preston at lakeside in the quarters.
Watched the mini match highlights of this game, and Preston were just more clinical whilst NWS Spirit missed so many chances. Preston season back on track. I reckon 4 more points should be enough assuming Avondale will defeat NWS Spirit.

This now opens up the possibility of a massive quarterfinal at Lakeside. I'm hoping sanity prevails and they can push back kick off to 6-7pm to maximise attendance and TV ratings. Unfortunately I don't they will and will keep the scheduled kick off times.
