The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Huge day coming up for the group standings.

Whoever wins from Broadmeadow and Morton City are in the box seat for 2nd place in group A.

Most likely curtains for Preston if they lose in group C.

And in group D, if Bayswater win then I think that group is finished with MetroStars and SU missing out. Metro probably hoping SU get up to keep it alive.

To be honest I was expecting a far larger crowd in attendance than 1400. About 7-10% of that crowd would have been South supporters.
yep I agree from a outsiders viewpoint......
I'm bundling in here a brief from my armchair uneducated haha outlook since many comments.
Now others may disagree but its my interest/observations over years.
Stats - for me mean jack shit in some ways and forget NSL, were way passed then......

SO in all due repect are a figure of the bastion club of old for years, you get that after 20+yrs in isolation....but ordinary/average admin erodes a club/mud sticks would you agree Glenardo ?......and you my fellow portugese mate t F l interested in your pov ?
Lets put out there Marconi were in the absolute dumps as well (as many others we've all been in similar poop) - for on the side since NPL 2013 honours recorded, see in link, SO have won more honours then my fellow Italians - APIA have smoked both Clubs there :)

SO have been light weight in the modern times to me - kudos they have built up some good stacked squads, some good ex AL players end of their prime and perfectly suitable for semi pro should have won more with these squads but no.
Their ongoing internal Pres/committee issues have been rife for years, infact typical wog ways like of old, tbh not many clubs are much better tbh, all have been in the dumps just some have got out of it better........

Stats don't show whats underneath typically, what happens to the heart and soul, why have support disappeared.
Where are the support here online ? go back to 442 days even - crickets.
I recall going to SO games for the heck close to my area and used to keep distance from the active support it was so strong for eg.....such a great vibe !
Why the snakes and ladders so re-occuring with the club, unlike SMH keeping competitve despite their high and lows, you know why, till of late vnpl opponents were not strong enough to really knock them off their perch :) get that haha....
The home pitch scenario has been a basket case for decades re SO - they should have decided on a move years ago cut their friggin loss's.....
A huge issue overall as a supporter I would have had a gutful for thats your heartbeat as a club (Belmore has been neglected by council for decades)....they should have accepted they were never going to beat the local council/the state gov and the power of the NRL re the Dogs for its their home ground from way way back as well - they were always going to knock off SO.
Some could say Lambert park is no better ? well it is, doesn't share with NRL, its alone in its own little Italia hideaway warts and all, its syn such is today but its functioning serving its purpose for the entire clubs teams.
Plus we have Leichardt just up the road as currently used for the Championship perfectly.

The mention of SO and SU's lack of performance in the Championship - sure i get it from a outsiders perspective for they have NO clue but whats in front of them - the scoreline and headlines.
Its taken how many years for the Championship to unfold ? 10+ right.
Its all about timing, oh they are not taking it seriously, like wtf re SU's case, not long ago they were in the ACup final, all were blown away putting aside the typical media headlines talk about the football that got them there.....
They are in the league mix near on every season this just happens to be one of the worst in years - again bad timing.

Can't help the castle falling down between years and worse just at a crucial time - friggin feel for SU I tell you.
We know from Berettas feedback how supporters feel - SU will dig themselves out of it for they are a far more stable/stronger club despite all the negative flack but SO, well as mentioned they have been a lighter weight imo for years barring a good season run now and then, hence the lack of supporter base the way I see it.
They really need to get their act together and string up a couple of good seasons, hello management, many supporters will comeback typically supporters want to see winners more then losers, make a good run, finish in the league Top 6, put on a big game at the playoffs get to the semis yaddayadda.......
After all my wind above see below from the link provided :
NPL 2013 to current.........
Finals winners 2014.
Prem winners 2018 - Knocked out Semis 2018 - magic season.
Prem winners 2022.
Better than many I have to say so for the power house people think they are/were.

They need a place to call home permanently in the near future ! Kogarah is meh.

Yes mate the poster who mentioned about Shark/NRL park - I think I do recall a motion about that many years back.
It is quite far from its Club roots though - therefore Kogarah is ok but the place just doesn't fit them personality wise imo.

As for the vic nsw comparo - moments in games, you could enjoy more possesion or hit posts many times and lose - watching I don't see much the divide but who grabs that chance.
Its swings and roundabouts.
Our foundation clubs some are at crossroads for a while.
SO - as reported.
Wolves - been off the boil since covid, won league 2019 runners up following season, been no where much post covid.
SU - we know the history.
3 of 5 need to step up and I'm sure they'd give the vnpl a run no matter how many divs they overlap down hahaha
Whereas a late unknown smokey Spirit has stepped up ok despite losing their '25 Prem winning gaffa and some key players for the championship.
Another who I expect to join the Championship maybe next season is Rockdale - they won the league pre and post covid, in the play off mixers last 5 seasons as well.
Look out they will come as well you vics haha

Lets enjoy the coming games shortly fellas - semi pro league is the winner hands down :)

Metro take the lead on APIA. South Hobart behind 2-1 but double the shots of the Wolves. Morton City come from behind to lead in a fiery match. Great day already

Interesting game APIA v metrostars, on the balance of play APIA should have won, but metro did well to get some kind of a result.

Seemed a decent crowd again, good on em.

What do people think of Leichhardt as a shared venue for APIA and Olympic ? They played there for a good portion of the 90s, probably a bit more appropriately sized.

Also I was previously on the fence re a summer or winter season but Im now leaning towards a summer h/a comp running alongside the a league as much as I’d miss having the games to go to in winter to pass the weekends at that time of year

The last time a NSW team beat a Victorian team in a competitive fixture was 2023 when APIA beat GV Suns (VPL2 at the time). The last time an NPL Victoria team lost to a NSW team in a competitive fixture was R32 2018 FFA Cup when APIA beat Port Melbourne. Since then Victorian teams (from any level) have lost to Queensland sides 3 or 4 times, and a Tasmanian side once; I believe that's it. There's definitely a gap.

That gap (I believe) is helped by as you mentioned that Victoria's pyramid next season will be 10 levels deep (from 8 this season), whereas NSW is now only three. Maybe there's an argument NSW having just three levels concentrates the best players, however it also cuts off ambitious clubs that lift the level (a la Avondale).
I suppose that on top of getting new elite clubs like avondale, every layer that is connected has a ripple effect lifting the quality

if npl nsw added a 4th layer, those in the third no longer can be complacent and they have to work hard to avoid going down to the 4th level. But making the 3rd level higher means that the 2nd division will improve and so on

The rate npl vic are going, they could overtake the a league iin quality f they add another 3-4 leagues below what they have

2-0 is a dangerous scoreline, but preston do look comfortable

Freak accident and didn't look good

Best wishes to luc jeggo
Awful stuff. Questioning the turf, his foot or leg just got stuck, was the astro watered? Has it dried already? He just didn't skid at all. Or maybe a stud got stuck? Poor bastard, horrible.

He landed on his own the leg don’t think it was the pitch

Ryan Scott has kept Preston in the tournament with his performance in goalwm Spirit could easily have scored 4. Next goal will be crucial.

Gruesomely, I watched the slow mo, he basically lands in a sideways slide but without sliding, just stopped. Any other day and he slides across the surface. Today, his foot plugged in the turf while his body kept going. Just my opinion, but going in sideways that boot should've skidded off the surface, not stuck.

Bad loss for Spirit, 3-0 down in a game they dominated lol.

Looks like its going to be South v Preston at lakeside in the quarters.
didn't dominate shots on target though or quality of chances

another strong win for football vic

should we be lobbying for every state to connect as many levels of the pyramid in their state as they can?

If a few other states were as strong as vic it would be almost impossible to stop an nst

That will be huge!! Hopefully the powers that be dont screw it up and give us the best date/time and they will get thw biggest crowd they have seen at any NPL/championship game!.
