The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

APIA have gone as far to even change their logo for the Championship to add Wests.

with a staged fan celebration video clip up on their socials.

they have really sold themselves this time 🤦‍♂️
On that recent interview appearance from Raciti he claimed adamantly that they’re not part of wests tigers, but that the “wests” groups wants to become a broader sporting club. That wests tigers are the nrl branch, wests APIA are the football branch, and that they’re also looking to get a basketball team. Make of that what you will. Have made my stance clear previously. The promo vid seems to almost try to justify the rebranding, as if to say “see we’ve had lots of names and logos throughout our history”

Well the Wests group is a pretty large sporting entity supporting many varied codes and obviously branching out more.
They have been APIA supporters as you know for yonks.
APIA is small in resource compared to yours Glenardo, another known, don't have a club with $'s coming through it.
Like I said elsewhere, TR is a passionate Ferrari salesman, we need funds to keep alive, hence the tweaks/changes he makes sure the Club functions stays afloat - there is nothing wrong with this imo - he's changing keeping the Club alive.
We are not like the APL having massive sugar daddys even though some are in background at a smaller scale thankfully for any of our NPL Clubs.
I'm not a fan of the name change as a supporter but obviously they leverage and got otherwise the deal wuldn't have gone through - just hope TR made sure on the fine print there a back up plan/out clause that was agreed upon - who knows.

+++ edit, my error I'm NOT a fan of the name change but out of my control.

Hey it is what it is. I get it, again, no problem with the structural side of this, just personally would have preferred if the rebrand was more subtle. I wonder how much has been required by the wests group. Obviously they’ve been able to keep part of the name, the colours etc so there’s obviously been some give and take

Just want to throw this out there...

Q. What would be the implications on the NST if a club like Spirit who has earned a spot, pulls out because they can't afford it or just don't feel it would benefit them?
Q. How much is the FA contributing and would it be financially positive?

its APIA, not like many people will care or notice the changes....

good luck to them, but I'd be livid if it happened at Sydney United.

What wouldn't they be able to afford, player payments for 9 matches??? FA is paying for flights and accommodation...

If they pull out the privileged would go to the next club I guess... Rockdale?

Is there any suggestion of this happening or just a complete hypothetical

I'm certainly interested to see how it works. We shouldn't be pigeonholing clubs to just be "x" and nothing else. Variety is the spice of life. If clubs want to be member based, that's cool. If they want to be migrant based, that's cool. If they want to be franchise based, that's cool. If they want to partner with rugby and basketball, that's cool. It's whatever works for them, their market. Diversify and survive. And I hope this one has many benefits for APIA 👍🏻

I've been confused how my NST costings have been so much cheaper than the numbers proposed by FA/AAFC. I was wondering if they're flying the teams first class and staying in 5 star hotels!

This article gives a little hint, every interstate trip includes one night accommodation, and two nights for trips involving WA teams. Seems a bit over the top and unnecessary for every trip. There are many trips that can be in and out in a day, and WA doesn't need more than a night stay. I'd hate to think what kind of flights they're looking at!

Maybe FA are trying to show how expensive a professional league is. But it seems to be a silly waste of money here. It's fine for national teams or the Premier League, but not a startup NST. I know there needs to be a balance of spend and professionalism, but let's not be fiscally exuberant.
