The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

also he leaks that the plan is that when you have h&a competition the nst clubs will have youth teams in the npl

I was told this too off the record, but in the end its out in the open now

No problems with that IMO - if the aim is to connect to the A-League (considering they do the same with youth teams)

Yeah think thats brilliant

Would also like a coalition of the willing national youth league for any clubs from both divisions who want to submit a team

Would entice other teams to join if they see the an nyl leads to more transfer revenue (assuming it does)

Football Vic more or less confirmed this last year when they put out the competition format guidelines for what has been this season. If a H&A NST season started this year, the foundation clubs would enter U23's at VPL2, and then teams would filter up from there - rather than filtering up the whole state-leagues.

APIA president is quite a character, a lot of trash talk about other clubs
Interesting thing is claiming that other clubs can't pay the 500k gaurantee and are lying when they say they can and are just bad mouthing football australia

to be honest, even if that is true, the ndas and secrecy of the process makes them open for that
I'd love a summary of the Championship talking points in this video.

Interesting to hear that NPL Vic teams spend $800k-$1.2m, and they're expecting that to rise with the Championship to between $1.5m-$2m.

And I think Raciti said when they go to full home and away NST, their youth teams and the A-League youth teams will form their own youth league. I assumes he means a youth league at state level, so all the NSW NPL and A-League youth teams in one league.

Insanity that is occurring at a semi pro environment. It means the sponsors are there at least.
That number is near a good level for a second tier. The A-League cap is $3.5m, but this will reduce to $3m for 2026-27.

I reckon if we have enough NST clubs up around $2-2.3m, it's one less excuse against pro/rel with A-League, where it's said that it might be unaffordable for them.

But Raciti seemed confident that there won't be any pro/rel with A-League until 2035. He's also confident that the Championship will be a success and the clubs won't have any problem affording it.

It may be unaffordable for them now, but part of that is because there is no real pathways. They have to base their business model on the fact that the top level NPL is the max they can currently achieve. The question is, if there were a proper pathway, what kind of growth would we see. I'm guessing quite a bit.

yep and yep full stop.
Such imcompetence/closed comp and not bridging anything for 20+yrs has held us back and this is the perfect example of players losing their gigs and no where to go realistically without taking pay cuts let alone how many semi pro clubs can take the opportunity.
Might I also say another knock off effect is a semi pro up and comer doesn't get his chance for another season.
Were in a utter stupid position in 2025, I get it back in the early days but today ???? what a farce.

yeah that wage bill in NSW is on the higher end. Marconi, Rockdale & APIA being the biggest spenders.

Speaking with our club, with the championship, you'd need an extra $300k-$500k on top of what you already spend in the NPL.

Good on these people for putting a show together etc clearly they’re passionate etc and it’s not just them, but it always amazes me when even the fans of the game in this country can’t get basic facts right re names of comps, clubs, groups, who’s playing who, where teams finished on the ladder etc

And again, it’s not a dig at these blokes, it’s something you hear at games all around Australia on weekends at all levels, at local soccer, npl, even a league. Bizzare. I know there’s been a lot chopping and changing over the years, but If this is the state of play amongst fans of the game, imagine for the casuals and Australian public

Raciti ALSO promised he was going to sell 49% of Apia's ownership to stockholders.... take everything with a big bag of salty Parmesan cheese... :P
