YES... They have signed on to be part of a national competition with the understanding that they need to professionalise...

WHAT else would a football club strive for if NOT for competition at the highest possible level?

Why else would you think they are doing this? Genuinely curious to hear your answer?

Thanks for the heads up.

South Hobart's home ground is only 1.5km's away, I am definitely keen to get to their home games to support the NST concept in it's first season.

More to my point is that the advertisers, broadcasters and the others who pay the bills, don’t want any more of the nonsense that came with Sydney Croatia’s appearance in the national cup final a few years back.

Would imagine for clubs like south Melbourne and Marconi the goal would be to professionalise. Both actually were attempting to transition into professional clubs at the end of the nsl era to compete with the likes of Perth and Adelaide. Some nsl clubs put their hands up during the nsl-a league transition period and said they were financially unable to make the transition even if were to be invited. Where as south and Marconi were actively trying to gain entry into the a league which would have involved being fully pro obviously. Again, not all ex nsl clubs or current npl club are created equally. Different clubs probably have different end goals/levels of ambition. Some probably have the long term of getting back to the pinnacle of the domestic game, others probably just want to be the best version of themselves they can

It never stopped 5 NSL clubs being accepted to the A league, at start up.

Not sure which straw man you think you’re debating/if you’re lumping me in with the broader nsl v a league debate with this response.

Mine was a fairly generic contribution re the potential end goals of traditional clubs. Not trying to get into a debate about anything

That doesnt seem to be what FA thinks.... nor what the sponsors of the Championship think either....

on contrary - oh not the Pro at park grounds you took that to the opposite scale that is a ridiculous retort.
Just saying for eg ala Roar playing in a stad that they hardly fill and they are not alone, Jets etc
The typical event derby games get filled Syd/Melb and may I say whilst Sutho bangs on bout avg crowds the rest of the crowd are just that event goers.

Ah Sutho bites like a rattler, ofcourse a Proper Pro league ala EPL you mention my fav needs broadcast backing, thats the point you didn't read, your league is battling for one against other far better funded codes And the comp isn't bringing in much newbies but the event followers.

Personal satisfaction/greed/bragging rights/pride. Take Avondale for instance, backers go away, what next? NPL 3? The club will more than likely vanish into the abyss.

I know Bayswater has zero interest in competing at the top level on a full time basis so what is the point having them in the tournment.

95% of the crowds the NPL teams get in the FFA Cup are "event goers".

They have no fans bar a couple hundred.

I like Roar playing at Suncorp, they have proven in the past the can get 20k to a game.

How many/which NSL clubs were actively wanting to be part of the Aleague initially and were rejected?
