The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

I could live with 8. Just get it started
The Isles of Scilly Football League (ISFL) on England’s Isles of Scilly (off the coast of Cornwall) is the smallest in the world. They have just two teams: Garrison Gunners and Woolpack Wanderers. Neither team play in the FA Cup nor is their pro/rel, however, despite being a member of the Football Association.

2 Might be a bit low even for me haha

I don’t know exactly how it works in Scotland with the 10 clubs but I think it’s something like home and away and then the league splits into top and bottom half and they play each other again. But that only really works if relegation is in play

Close. The Premiership has 12 teams who play each other thrice: once at home, once away and once again either home or away (e.g. Celtic and Rangers play home and away every season, but their third meeting alternates randomly between Celtic Park and Ibrox Stadium). The league then splits and the top six play each other once (home or away), while the bottom six do the same. The format your thinking of is kinda used in the SWPL, which has 10 teams who play each other twice (home and away) before the league splits into two (top six and bottom four) and they play each other twice (home and away) again. Both have 1.5 relegation spots (i.e. a playoff spot and a direct drop spot). Personally, I think if the SWPL still had 12 teams its format makes the most sense as it eliminates potential home and away advantages since everyone plays everyone then the split happens and they do the same.

all works here so we get it cemented before they can kill it altogether...

8 teams 14 rounds plus finals top 6, 2 legs elim and semi and gf tp highest placed qualifier end of regular season
This is the bare minimum and to get us started if need be.

10 teams 18 rounds plus finals even better. Top 6 elim sf and gf

12 teams 22 rounds plus finals of top 4 semi 2 legs and gf only.

Ill be happy with most as long as its h&a...

There's no point in having top six finals in an eight-team comp as nearly every team will end up making the finals series and the top four finals format would be better suited for that size of competition instead.

14 game competition? There's more games in our local competition here. We want to help develop players and coaches for Europe. We need a minimum of 30 league games.

Dare say as much as anything going ahead in unideal circumstances is about not missing this moment and letting the flame go out only to have to start all over again
My thoughts also... and bc i dont trust an punce of what they say anything h&a is better than nothing..

@rebelliousfeminist974 i shouldve proof read it.. was meant to be top 4... lol

I reckon start with 10 teams across 3 states, that means 18 matches. You have a top 5 finals series which generates a further 3 matches. I know some will say that half the teams in the league making finals rewards mediocrity, but with so few teams you need to find a way to generate more matches.

Just watched the football Australia AGM YouTube clips Anter Isaac has mentioned the championship will be going ahead this year
Appatently there was a fifa congratulatory video presented for the championship according to Lynch.... thats must ve stung them a little... either way they are commited for a couple more seasons yet so cant see them killing it off but do see them slowly strangling the life out of it to try avoid blame...

Infantino for Aussie pro+rel!

The Fifa boss praised FA for its work in the region, and described the inaugural season of the Australian Championship – won by South Melbourne – as a “highlight of the Australian football calendar, helping to take giant leaps in reuniting old soccer and new football, as you say in your country”. He went on to say the championship “will continue to close the gap between the first and second tiers of football in Australia”.
