The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Yes, that's about right I think. I mean.. the basis of those areas going out of Vic are mostly based off the distance to Melbourne - both Mildura and Albury are essentially almost at the halfway point for each of them, so could be a case either way.

I've updated my Google Earth to show these fully extended to the coastline now.
Anyone know if there's a website that can do the same thing but using travel times instead of distance?

Call me.sceptical, but im noticing a lot of stars seem to be disaligned rather quickly lately,

What i see is:
1. zero push for championship next ROI,. Expansion, model p&r, pyramid etc
2. zero promotion of second season and beyond.
3. massive FA monetary losses without explanation as to where/why?.
4. Large 'granted' APL loans.
5. new agreement with the main entity heavily against the championship, for new ways to create more debts via the AL.
6. An FA once again held hostage by private interests and led by the wrong ppl...

None of which provide for any confidence in their ability or want to continue to grow football... i get the need of their focus being on the matildas cash cow but the well will run dry there also and then what?

Perhaps a backup plan needs to start being drafted by the rest of us, perhaps that idea of a super NPL between VIC & NSW is just the type of thing that allows for that in the case they decide to pull the plug on us. Perhaps the conversation of what next has to move to the forefront to apply the warranted pressure needee now that AL is struggling and can be forced into accepting changes ... perhaps we dont miss another opportunity to actually grow the game?

The APL no interest in "growing the game" except for themselves, i.e the A League and as predicted and expected they've gone begging like Oliver Twist back to the sugar daddy ( the FA ) that they originally spurned because they're pathetically broke due to extremely poor administation. None of this bodes well for the rest of the football pyramid.

yep spot on.
Look I put aside my personal diff towards the AL for in the big picture we need unity but its not going to happen whilst we have 2 football entities.
Then we have the utter incompetance of the FA.

I think this is what people have misunderstood when I’ve suggested the nsw/vic super league in the past. It’s not that I don’t want the championship to go ahead with clubs from everywhere, it’s just that I’m putting forward models/solutions that would be the next best thing/better than nothing at all if it doesn’t work out. If there aren’t enough clubs from outside the 2 biggest states for it to get going in the way that they want, you’re better off going with what you’ve got than nothing at all imo. As I say, that’s where the core of the clubs and support will come from anyway. If this year the nsw and vic npl were the same comp you’d essentially have a defacto second division anyway. And I’m sure just by virtue of the fact of increased competition and condensing the big clubs/support/interest for the game at this level from both cities into one comp you’d have an increase in profile/crowds/resources etc

I dont think its the fact we have two entities personally, Why does the Premier league work so well with the rest of the FA?

The problem is that the APL is closed OFF purposefully from the rest of the FA's clubs....

This was the grumbling that started the NSL in the first place.... I think the main differnce now is that both SA and QLD are much stronger footballing states than they were in 1970s... Not to mention Perth state clubs growing and even Tassie pushing for inclusion.

It will happen, just not with much help from the FA anymore... they've got their shiny plastic toy back now....

To be fair imo South Australia has always punched above its weight

Sure but back then it was Hellas and Juve then a biiiiiiig jump to the state leagues... Now there are legitimate "contenders" for their NPL every year and this years Australia Cup entrants are going to be newbies from the looks of it... Much healthier position to be in to jump into a national league... same as Brisbane...

though it is as you mentioned due to its closed comp unless you buy into it whereas naturally the governing body be it the FA/EPL yaddayadda work in sync together (no argument who is to pay for officials etc) for the same goal we do not have this it is 2 different models yet same product.
Get it.

Fair point tbh. I have relatives who traveled to Adelaide to play friendly matches against Adelaide juventus back in the pre nsl era and reckoned they were a pretty good team even back then. Don’t forget, Adelaide is a small place now let alone back then, it had less than a million people in the 70s. Imo it’s probably traditionally had the next strongest soccer culture after the two big cities in Sydney and Melbourne

FA loss for this year is $15.3 mill according The Age. Thats on top.of the $8.3 from last year.... in other news they granting the APL $14mill + in debts for a possible measly return (maybe) up to $1mill in a possible payment tp settle the dispute. The current admin also looking to kill off any revenue stream from AL transfers OS which it gets 10% of while also having to foot the full bill for refs in the AL??

What i get from that is the championship.will be sacrificed UNDER THE SCOPE OF austerity, and despite the exorbidant revenue from community football flowing to the FA none of it will go back into the game in any way to benefit all but will rather be looked as a cash cow to prop up the dying AL... this is the body that has 'the games' best interest in mind?

Can someone remind me wasnt this a major part of the 'official alluded to reasoning' for the death of the NSL??? (the real reasoning came out in Frank Loweys recent interview) .... guess now that last standing argunent has crumbled also...

In NPL NSW, it looks like it could be either 4th or 5th place that ends up getting the "winners" spot to the Championship as only Rockdale and NWS are currently within reach. That seems a bit ridiculous. I'd rather that spot be given to ANY runner up from any other federation, instead of 4th/5th placed! 🤮
OK this is really bugging me now. Current NSW Championship representative in 5th place, Rockdale, just got belted by Wanderers academy 5-0. Wanderers are just below Rockdale in 6th, and the Sydney academy just below them in 7th with a game in hand.

It's now looking a strong chance that the NSW representative for the Championship will finish in 5th to 7th place, the latter if the academy teams finish 5th and 6th.

Whoever is in charge of the Championship needs to jump on this immediately as it would be an embarrassing farce if 5th to 7th is their "winner" qualifying for the Championship. Pass the slot on to the runner up from any other federation. Announce this now before any club gets upset.
