No idea why we have Inglis in there over Webster.
Carey looking good atm.
I'm spitting chips over Webster being left out. His form has been outstanding in the Baggy Green in Tests - yet they've dropped him? Batting average 35, scoring some extreme pressure runs overseas and at home against India, when the upper order have failed; plus he has a bowling average of 23.
To play Inglis batting low at 7, who scores only 30 runs on a perfect Adelaide batting wicket, and can't bowl pace and finger spin like Webster, who can bowl long spells to lessen the load of the pace bowlers and enable Green to bowl as a shock bowler, is baffling!
Plus Webster is the top slip fielder in Aus.
With both Cummins and Green under an injury cloud to bowl long spells, on a flat Adelaide track in searing heat, and with an ageing attack, Aus could be really caught out.
Given I'm pretty happy with the Socceroos selections, whereas most of this forum aren't, in cricket I'm perplexed? Popa is really creating generational change in the Socceroos.
Conversely, George B, head selector, seems risk averse, and thumbs his nose at Shield red ball cricket. They were contemplating playing Mitch Marsh, who ATM could struggle to make the WA Shield team, and has played almost no red ball cricket this season, as an opener based on white ball performance! They also played Cooper Connelly in a Sri L Test, who has played in 4 Shield games and taken virtually no wickets!
George only lives a kilometre from me. Might have to rock George's roof!
Usman is a retrograde step too. He is 39 tomorrow, should have been out at 5 today, dropped by Brook,, and is the worst fielder in the team! I think we are winning despite the selectors. This team could have 3-4 injuries a couple of retirements, and then there would be 6 players playing with virtually no Test experience.
Next George will be checking Ian Chappell, Dennis Lillee and Thommo's retirement homes to see if they are available? LOL!
Even now the GOAT and Usman, aged 38 and 39, are so complacent in the Test team, they pontificate about who should be selected as their teammates!
And the Pom selectors might be worse!
Many who know a lot about cricket have seen English keeper, Foakes, who is reputed to be one of the best keepers in the world. He has a Test batting average of 33 too. Yet he has never played a Test against Aus? Why?
The Pom selectors have preferred Bairstow, and now Smith, as keepers.
Also, I discovered today, spinner Jacks, an all rounder, virtually doesn't bowl in red ball county comp according to Phil Tufnell! Yet Jacks is selected as the Pom frontline spinner! There must be some specialist spinners in county cricket who are far better options?
There is a bearded English wrist spinner who bowls limited overs, has South Asian heritage, who has refused to play for the English Test team! He plays for the English white ball teams. What is the world of cricket coming to? He won't play for his national team in the second biggest sport in the world! Others might know his name?
