Summer of Cricket thread

I am bloody confused LFC. You are denying that pic is not you, correct? I think D is winding you up, as the Pommies say.

You picking up plenty of business there in Dubai mate?
mate I know he's trying to wind up hense the weird sense of humour mention.
Well Richie, there's no denying its just sand dunes here haha yes doing very well thanks !

That'd be correct. Why then do you think he and Stokes introduced this form of batting he arrogantly named after himself, because that was the way he played his cricket over his Test career. He only averaged mid 30s from memory because he was a hit and miss cricketer.
Wasn’t he a specialist keeper?

Yes.

I’m taking the piss out of LFC! He is good for a laugh! LFC has a good sense of humour!

I was hoping a few more posters would think he was the fat bearded bloke in the photo!

Every time i saw Webster play in the test team he seemed to do well.

The performances last summer against India are what I remember. And India are a tough team to beat.

Another factor is at home grounds the team needs 2 spinners and at other grounds the team isn't even sure that they need a spinner. Webster is ideal in both situations.

I was impressed with his fielding, batting and bowling, perhaps not exceptional but solid and IMO reliable in all 3 areas.

I don't think Lyon is bowling much better than him.

My issue with Lyon isn't just age, i think that he is not the bowling threat that we was a fee years ago.

I don't understand why Inglis played instead of Webster. If they were leaving out Lyon, Webster needed to play. And if they wanted to play Inglis and Webster they should have omitted a pace bowler.
Agree with all this - but I’m a biased Tasmanian.

Before I go into more ideas about teams for next Test, must admit I like day/night Tests.

Attended one Ashes day/night Test in Hobart.

What do others think about the day/night Test concept?

as much I prefer staying traditional sign of the times - something always needs to be tweaked they say.
Sure changes the apple cart re ball speed/vision adjusting to lights for test cricket.
It’s all about the spectacle encouraging more supporters ticket sales not that the Ash’s ever struggled for packed grounds.

I like the way the idiosyncrasies of the pink ball change a flat pitch into one that helps the bowlers to make a sporting pitch.

However, I don’t like any pitch that results in precluding a specialist spin bowler to an all pace attack.

There has been a lot of discussion by an erudite Pom media into the nuances of pink ball cricket.

Pommie bowlers wont like the first four day temps of the Adelaide Test , 33, 37, 35. Then a cooler 30. Fair to say Aussie summers provide a bonus for us.

Is Bazball the cricket equivalent of Angeball-attack at all costs and try to overpower the opponent?Great when it comes off but horrendous when it fails.

I like day / night tests my only complaint is that sometimes the ball swings too much. That wasn't the case in Brisbane

Bowlers don't need to bowl as much in sapping hot wearher.

Particularly for hot countries like India and Austraila playing in cooler weather at night is better for players and fans.

More chance that fans can make it to the game or watch it live on TV.

I would have a 50/50 split between day and night games and alternate them.

IMO Webster or Khawaja to come in for the Adelaide test.

Webster gives us another spin bowling option and is a much better field Khawaja is a more established batsman.

Or we could promote some young bat who is regularly posting big scores in shield. But it is too late to add a player.

I desperately want Webster, because he can bowl a lot of back up overs to reduce the frontline pacemens’ workload. We can also use Green as a shock bowler, and Cam doesn’t have to back up.

I also want a frontline spinner. If not Lyon, then one of the younger Rocky, Murphy or Kuhnemann ( although he might not have played enough recent red ball cricket).

Is Bazball the cricket equivalent of Angeball
Had to look up angelball. More like hitting a target at a fun fair than cricket I'd say. This cult batting style is not new. Donald Bradman and one or two other Aussies of that time could hit 300 runs in a day, 100 per session. The West Indian sides of the 80s prided themselves on keeping the scoreboard ticking over rapidly, ditto in World Series Cricket Super Tests. More recently Alan Border and Adam Gilchrist weren't exactly slow coaches either.

I'm going for this eleven if Cummins is still unfit:

Weatherald
Head
Labu
Smith
Green
Carey
Webster - first slip, bats, bowls pace and finger spin
Neser
Starc
Murphy/Rocciocioli
Boland

Not sure if Neser is better than Doggett? He might be better at Brisbane under lights? Both have bowled effectively in the Shield/Aus A games at Bellerive.
