Summer of Cricket thread

Expect England to have settled when I wake up in 8 hours. 5/148 by tea.

This rings extra true now.

VERY disappointing show with the bat after getting into such a strong position with the ball. I know Khawaja not being able to bat would have caused panic in the changeroom but once out in the middle no one stood up and had a clear plan for how to counteract the Poms pace barrage.
My words precisely. It was an ambush and our hierarchy didnt see it coming. Hello, didnt something twig in your minds when they picked an all pace attack.

We were starting to look settled with Green and Carey at the crease, then our keeper did the unthinkable. Stokes is a cagey old dude and worked him like a puppet.

O'Connor was picked for CAX1 v Lions match initially DC, yet Tigers now have him playing shield instead and he is opening the bowling too. Prefer Ward batted #3 where he has been for two seasons. C'mon Tassie selectors there are openers in Premier League that could fit in at this level.

Blues 39 after only five overs with Sam Konstas mauling Gabe Bell. See Davies has been picked again. Jeez you brain dead selectors there is plenty of young talent in Premier and Seconds.

Socceroos chosen as one of the hosts for the FIFA Series. Is this a big honor guys.

Bummer a rain delay in Sydney is gonna halt the Konstas/Hicks momentum. After 10 overs they are 69 without loss. Hicks is a specialist keeper, least he was 18 mths ago for the Aussies in the Junior Ashes, so baffled why he is opening the batting.

Well here we go....Richie is the pitch the usual "quick" as in the ol days ?

For some aside trivia - politics have got Pigeon to be punted - pardon the pun.

and on a different sad note on one of our Legends
LFC as AB has advanced Parkinsons he prob fears he will lose his marbles after then. Symptoms; dementia, hallucinations, difficulty with movement, maintaining balance.

I have some doubts about Konstas, but we need something at opener.

Ideally an attacking player like Konstas and a very solid defensive opener who can last a lot of balls.

Is Weatherald the right guy for the solid opener role?

I think that what we mostly need from the last wicket partnership is keep England in the field for as long as possible.

Any runs will be a bonus.

Starc is going to need some help, this is a good game for Green to show what he can do as a bowler.

Konstas is a more solid all round batsman than Weatherald. Like to see him batting down the order but see he is still opening for the Blues. JW will play a Warner like role and has to be given the entire Ashes series and then some to cement his place.

Tho Lyon bats above Doggett he is not much better with the bat, so expecting a short stay this morning against a fired up Pommie attack.

Lyon gone. Poms with a 40 run lead. I expect them to come out all bats blazing so Doggett or Boland need to hit their line and lengths perfectly from over one. Barrell put on a horror show yesterday.

Starc takes an screamer c & b off Crawley. Seems to be almost superman like in Cummins/Hazlewood absence.

The Aussies are going to need to fight hard to get back into this game.

The pitch dying a bit, but maintaining consistent bounce is our best bet.

I can't see us bowling England out for less than 350 unless Lyon or Green can make an impact.

Chasing 400+ in the 4th innings seems possible, if the pitch dies a bit and the weather gets hotter.

We are going to need to bat a lot better and we need to get England out first.

It we don't get a wicket in the first hour after lunch we are probably chasing a big score.

This is like the first test against India in Perth last year, we seem off the pace, but 2 of our best bowlers are out.

Sometimes momentum shifts in test cricket, at other times the game gets stuck in a groove and momentum is hard to shift.

Guys like Shane Warne, Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting could shift momentum.

In this batting line up, Smith, Head and Carey seem like the players most likely to shift momentum, we might need all 3 to fire.

I do think that England's game plan and execution is excellent and our older Batsmen have real problems against pace.

This is why teams with 2 solid openers and a great no 3 win a lot of tests.
