Cricket Australia XI squad to play England Lions (November 21-24 at Lilac Hill)

Mackenzie Harvey (c), Charlie Anderson, Liam Blackford, Xavier Crone, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cameron McClure, Aidan O’Connor, Nivethan Radhakrishnan, Jhye Richardson, Jake Scott, Jack Sinfield, Teague Wyllie (one Test squad member to be added)

Looking forward to this match. How do Jake Fraser-McGurk and Teague Wyllie make this team, while the bowling attack, other than Jhye Richardson are virtual unknowns to many. Having said that, am pleased they have included two next gens in Charlie Anderson and Aidan O'Connor.

Some call him the Rockyhorrorshow, but he is now the Rockyheroshow after he led WA to an unlikely win in its match against Qld. Following his 5for the evening before Corey defied the best the Bulls bowlers had to hit the WArriors to victory and put his name front and centre as Lyons successor imho.

Agree how does JFM even keep his state spot with his pitiful return of runs across ALL forms of cricket since he somehow got picked for Australia?!?

I guess at least they are calling this a 'Cricket Australia XI' and not an Australia A team.

'Cricket Australia XI'
This team has always consisted of our most promising next gens as you prob already know. But since the current selectors came on the scene, also rans like F-M and Wyllie are being chosen and fewer of our best prospects. Only three in this quad, two, specialist seamer Charlie Anderson and all rounder Aidan O'Connor are serious talents. CAX1 sides also used to play against touring sides. That also seems to be happening less.

The one test squad member to be added is interesting. Obviously will wait until the first test XI or prob 12 is picked and then go from there.

If selected, Doggett would become Australia's third Indigenous men's Test cricketer, and the Perth Test would mark the first time the Australian men's Test XI would feature two Indigenous players, with Scott Boland in line to play.

Dont get me wrong as I am all for more indigenous cricketers in first class cricket. But this changed diagnosis on Josh Hazlewood's hammie sounds a bit fishy to me. Read above CA website article over the jubilation that for the first time two indigenous bowlers will play a Test for Australia.

Perhaps Josh does need to think now about calling it quits after these Ashes. Be a huge hole to fill as specialist seamers of his calibre DONT FALL OUT OF TREES. I see one young guy in particular that may fill that hole but he is 20 and fairly raw FC wise. Having said that so was 19/20 yr old Craig McDermott, or 'Billy The Kid' and he survived being so young and inexperienced to forge a successful career. Took 300 FC wickets from memory.

I actually think that piece of PR would have been in the back pocket ready for whenever he made his debut. I wouldn't read too much into it.

So many hammys with the fast bowlers currently is interesting...so much short form cricket with a lot of 4 over spells maybe when the workload increases their bodies are struggling to adapt? Especially when aging like Hazlewood.

No Cummins or Hazlewood to start the Ashes, Pommies must be licking their lips. Those absent two leaves a huge hole in our attack and the two replacements just do not have the class to cover them.

Yes but Wood hasn't played since Feb and broke down after 8 overs.
Archer has played 15 tests in 5 years.
Bashir will go at over 6 an over if he plays.
And the rest of them are in for a rude awakening of what it's like bowling pace in Australia.

Unless Stokes takes 40 wickets for the series I can't see how they take 20 wicket each test.

Yesterday many of the Cricket Tas members trudged down to Kingborough Twin Ovals to watch Tas v SA in a One Day game.

Initially, I couldn't be bothered, but went to the game from just before lunch. It was really worth it - except there was no behind the wicket vantage point. Unfortunately, AFL have dictated where the stands are placed!

For NSW, ACT and Queensland cricket supporters, they would probably agree with me, that AFL is a Mickey Mouse sport, of global insignificance, and shouldn't be dictating to cricket where and what is done re stand placement. Cricket is easily the second biggest sport in the world after football/soccer.

Made this pretty clear to the Cricket Tas CEO and Sec on Saturday too.

The stand was at an angle about mid off behind the bowler. Not great for analysing bowling, but it was okay for viewing the batting.

Webster scored 78 yesterday in Tas's victory, but looked furious when he came off after his dismissal ! Inside info is that he was told he couldn't bowl by Cricket Aus! They wanted runs. Slug delivered!

Meredith bowled, but didn't look that good. Ellis bowled better.

Pace bowler Thornton bowled better than in the Shield game for SA. Very sadly, the talented Lloyd Pope, a right arm wristy, who can turn ball about as much as Warne or MacGill, bowled darts for SA. What a waste!

We hit the turps at Huntingfield joint craft brewery ( Last Rites and T Bone) at lunch -time too. On a palette/flight, had 5 fabulous beers from both breweries

Really loved all the Kingborough grade cricketers, plus juniors involved at club level creating a community atmosphere. Some decent food kiosks too. Not a bad clubroom bar either!

A few of the Poms know about Aus bowling conditions.

Heard yesterday at the cricket, that Josh H is injured.

Not Archer or Carse, perhaps Tongue too, or has he been on a England A tour in past. Wood Aussie record is not all that flash anyway.

Good point. Thumping the front foot down on hard Aussie pitches is not a lot of fun when yu aint used to it. Neither is bowling in 30+%, 60% humidity Perth heat, specially when the ' Fremantle doctor ' does not arrive.

Could be, ODW.

Hammies taking toll of older pace bowlers.

Two of the all time great bowlers in world cricket are hard to replace.

Is that Mike fellow still launching diatribes on how bad a Test bowler Hazlewood is, Baggers?
