Summer of Cricket thread

Aussies did it tuff early with the chase but nailed the win comfortably in the end. Some of our fellars dont have the first clue how to play Indian spin, Owen and David the main culprits. Hello. Heard of moving your feet.

You support the Redbacks? SACA mistyped in that article that they were playing in the Dean Jones Trophy, the new title for the 50 over comp. Actually come to think of it the Sheffield Shield title should also be updated as Sheffield is named after a cricket loving and wealthy colonial Earl. Hello this is now the 21st Century and The Donald Bradman Shield sounds far more appropriate and is honoring our greatest ever cricketer, not some 19th century aristocrat.

I think naming our first class national domestic cricket competition after the greatest sportsperson in human history makes complete sense to me!

The Sir Donald Bradman Shield has a nice ring to it.

I just looked it up and the Sheffield Shield was named after Henry North Holroyd who was the 3rd Earl of Sheffield. Here goes the story according to Wiki:
Concerned with the declining standard of cricket in Australia, he organised, financed and managed the English tour of Australia in 1891–92 under the captaincy of W. G. Grace. While in Australia he donated £150 to the New South Wales Cricket Association which was used to purchase a plate and establish the competition known as the Sheffield Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition of Australia.

Fair enough he had a hand in its inception by way of donation/sponsoship, but does that warrant forever having our most prized long form cricket comp named after him? I wouldn't think so. I'm sure Earls of Sheffield haven't done shit for our game for many a year.

Needed our bowlers to help out Nathan Ellis 3/36, in the absence of Josh Hazlewood. Abbotts 56 off 3.3 overs, is diobolical. Until Mitch Owen learns how to play Indian spin he should be dropped from the rest of the series. Seems there is still some life in T20 for Stoinis.

Big crowd at Bellerive for the T20 International game. A mate of mine was saying how well David was batting!

He didn't impress Richie!

C'mon guys detest posting alone.
Sometimes we don't visit the forum.

People sometimes have busy lives off it - including watching a lot of live cricket, plus social, music and political events. Also, now it is warmer, going to the beach for a swim.

ATM I'm catching up on missed A League fixtures and analysing Socceroo games.

I must admit I perceive men's T20 as almost the enemy of red ball cricket these days! I despise the blaring music in between balls too. One can't hear one's mates next to you!

There are about another 30-40 Tas Cricket Members who think on similar lines. I watch a lot of women's white ball live though.

I like the T20 World Cup too.

I know men's T20 makes cricket the second most popular sport in the world, but there is too much of it.

I enjoy it far more than 50 over. Agree about the noise, reason I dont attend T20 live anymore. Did Bellerive have the music and stupid fireworks every time a six was hit.

Seems there is still some life for Stoinis in T20. If we wanna win the series Josh Philippe as our best spin player must be in the remaining two games.
Is this the game you and the guys saw live Jon. You agree with my comments re Abbott and Owen.
