Summer of Cricket thread

I've been pretty good at most sports I've played, but not cricket!

Yet I've discovered over Christmas I have some famous cricketers in the extended family.

My brother in law is a cousin of Beau Webster - and - a relative of former English keeper Alan Knott.

BW and AK are related to each other.

My brother in law's dad, RIP, was captain of Kingborough 1st grade - Beau Webster's club.

I have a grandfather, by the name of Peatfield, who opened the batting for the English RAF. Plus another Peatfield relative who played 1 Test for England just after 1900.

I'm a cricket failure!

i think smith has the best test average after Donald Bradman, an average of 56.

Almost 11,000 runs and he was banned for 12 months.

If he does stick around for a few more years he should break all records, including Pontings.

Close with only Sangakarra ahead of him on @57.

Smithy however now stands behind only The Don as the greatest batsman in Ashes history, after jumping English great Jack Hobbs and marching to his 37th Test ton to now be sitting sixth on that list with Ricky Ponting, 41 tons, the only Aussie ahead of him..

Finally I’ve seen the partnership - 85 runs between Smudge and Slug.

Demoralising for England for the 7th wicket.

You misunderstood. Was talking about this match. He bowled 5 overs to concede 20 runs. That was what I meant when I said I missed the closing stages of their innings.

...and they will extend that this morning. Slug is a no frills batsman and just plays what is in front of him without any risky shots, whereas Green seems to be playing under some mental distress as he is starting his innings well but keeps tossing it away with a silly shot. Yesterday he looked the best he has all series.

I see Green as a top 5 specialist batter. Illustrious pundits claim his form is okay, but he is getting himself out.

I maintain bat Green in the top 5 and select Webster as the all rounder at 6 or 7. As you say, Baggers, Slug is just a no frills batter used to batting under scoreboard pressure.

I feel sorry for the Poms. Having a 107 run 7th wicket partnership is demoralizing.

A great Smith innings comes to an end!

Great knock of 138!

Are you at the Test live, Baggers?
Sorry I missed this DC.

No such luck. Used to go with a mate but he moved interstate. Last match I saw live was with my brother and we almost boiled under the sun as our bookings were messed up and instead of being undercover they put us on the concourse.

Oh no!

It must have been hot!

I think Smith’s keeping has been pretty good as the series has gone on. His batting looks good too. It was a regulation catch to dismiss his namesake, Smudge.

Just saw Smith dismissal, a beaut from Tongue angled in and corrected a fraction away. The legend had to play.

Starc just dismissed too leaving Webster as the only decent remaining bat. He has been good since coming into Test cricket, bringing with him his 12 yrs first class experience.

We fall just short of the 200 run lead with Boland nicking Jacks behind. Webbers a fine undefeated 71. Pity his bowling is not Test standard.
