I get what you’re saying, but by the same token let’s not forget that for the longest time the AFL/NRL-compliant mainstream-media never saw fit to differentiate between ⚽️ overseas and here.

What’s closer to the truth is that 🇦🇺⚽️ fans back in the day simply had thicker skins about all this, and therefore resigned themselves to the game’s eternal subordinance to the ‘traditional’ codes here. Plus how many of them then as now followed both with no feelings of confliction, it would’ve been the majority already.
