Absolutely 3 points is far from a guarantee of a 3rd place advance.

I think we'll at least draw with the US and also Paraguay, although hoping for a win v Paraguay.

I think we'll finish at least 2nd.

We have to get something out of this match, we just cant leave it up to the last game of the group. Ill be happy with a draw. I just hope the Socceroo's show up and put in some effort and not let the win over Turkey get to there heads. This game really is do or die.

Agree that three points is far from guaranteeing a spot in the knockouts as one of the eight best third placed sides but ideally if the Socceroos were to finish third we'd want as good a goal difference as possible especially since for and against will be pivotal in deciding who advances.
 
I don’t understand you lot. A win against Turkey probably exceeded expectations. Now, we’re talking about what needs to happen to avoid us finishing last in the group. 🙄
Paraguay got hammered by the US and are ranked 19 places below us. I’m thinking let’s get a result against the US and a win against Paraguay will have us in the top 2 (if not top).
We beat better opponents in the last WC with an inferior side to what we have now.

Cynicism is ingrained from too much football trauma ahaha. I agree we should have confidence but I find myself worried. The yanks will be a tough team. Strong, fast, skilled.

Defense sets up to win games - just hope Popa doesn’t play it too safe - unleash us some turn the yanks round it’s there for the taking, our defense is better than theirs imo so let’s test them.

The United States definitely have more skill and pace than us especially in midfield and we need to be starting players like Cam Devlin and Cristian Volpato on Saturday so the Socceroos at least have a chance of matching their intensity and reining them in so we can shut them down early before they have the chance to get shots at goal and find the back of the net.

The US have two problems, Pulisic's injury and Adams yellow card.

If Pulisic does start his pace and turning ability will be comprised. If Adams gets another yellow he will be out of the Turkey game.

I like Devlin but I just don't see what he brings to the table vs USA then what we had vs Turkey.

Cam Devlin would bring pace in midfield compared to a player like Aiden O'Neill because Popovic's tactical system against Turkey will not work against the United States given the amount of pace and agility they have in midfield and in the forward line.

It was a response to someone's response about Socceroos fan chants being political and how they'll pick and choose topics. I agree it doesn't belong here yet people keep starting it up. Best I ignore it then but if a few users comment then it'll get going.

If Irankunda hadn't scored certain groups wouldn't have started using the team for their own agenda.

The German public broadcaster always spinning a political side to the football is annoying. Best we leave it there.

I think of those that finish 3rd, 3 points and a GD of -1 will essentially be a guarantee to get through - again this has been based off my various sims that have seen every nation that meets these criteria advance to the Round of 32.

But you’re right, having 4th off the table for us will be a bit of a lifesaver. I think a draw against USA, and a Turkey win over Paraguay does that from the maths. Obviously, a win over USA would as well
