Socceroos vs USA 2026 World Cup match thread 🇦🇺 🇺🇸

Goddamn! Watching the highlight both goals can be avoided easily. That's very silly and dumb to concede

Yeah he saw , yes it touched the hand. But it was too close and couldn't be avoided. I watched many games with similar incidents like this and the ref wouldn't give it.

Maybe if Australia is playing against arab teams in Arab the ref will give it
Too close? watch the whole footage, ball was in the air for an eternity with the defender challenging with his back to the direction of the ball.

Don't you hate when nasty american pundits including ex players turn out to be right about your national team. It shits me.

I ve watched many League games I d say 99% wouldnt give it. Ball and hand were too close to avoid.
What are you talking about? You must be referring to some other incident. It was a looping ball that took an age to come down and hit the player’s fully outstretched arm. It actually didn’t didn’t hit the hand at all but it definitely hit the arm which was clearly in an unnatural position.

with the same arms pushing a player away from heading the ball as well

The defender has his arms away from his body because he is in the middle of a two handed shove into Irankunda's front and the ball lands on his arm. Got to be an unnatural position and I would have thought a foul in its own right for the shoving. It is not challenging for the ball and somehow using the upper arm to protect the ball - it was just blatant pushing as he jumped. I thought that was a foul every day of the week?

In the follow up, you can also see Irankunda's shirt being pulled when he went for the spilled ball. Ref was behind the action for that part, but so clear on VAR.

They are not very astute in the VAR box, or simply had no desire to find something against the US team in that series of moments.

Just a couple of thoughts from me:
1. If you are going to play the same tactics as the first game, why making changes in terms of personnel after doing so well against Turkiye?
2. We were down 2-nil at half time. Do we have a more attacking plan B? Formation change, subs? This should have happened at half time in my opinion. I would have gone with a 4-2-3-1.

Poppaball is a double edged sword. Worked well against the Turks when they couldn’t get past us and got frustrated. But when you concede early, he struggled to adapt until too late. Saw it too many times with Victory.

Sad thing about this game is that before the game many American pundits looked down on us I was hoping some respects Sadly after this game nothing changed.
Yep this full stop bugga the refs calls.
We were cooked from the starting line up and our guys just didn’t have much composure whatsoever the first half.
Chasing ghosts - I was saddened to see our backline with nothing like the first game but they are not to blame in the end.
1st half killed us.
Playing catch up has never been our game but least we saw but more Popa saw what he should line up next game ?! If not he’s a friggin blind man !!! And his assistants.

Can someone explain why Popa wasn’t happy with the non-offside call for their second goal? The offside player runs in with the scorer but doesn’t influence the play or impede the goalkeeper in any way.

On replay, I was kinda disappointed to see the goal was perfectly legitimate after all. I thought we were ripped off, but no. What were people complaining about in that instance?

We also need to stop seeking solace in the fact that we limit teams to "few chances". The whole point of popas style is that we sit deep and dont allow it, the double edged sword being that whilst doing this we cant get past the halfway line.

If we are being honest the only clear cut chance in the match was the Balogin break away one on one early in the 2nd half.

Yeah the goals were unfortunate but when the ball is living in that danger zone for most of the game you will buckle at some point.

Mostly starts around here a couple pages back

Just goes to show, within 10 mins Volpato-Irankunda-Metcalfe has US on their heels.

Sorry but Poppa fucked this one. He selected a team based on his inner belief that we couldn’t beat this US team. Loser mentality.
How did we give this wanker an extension again?

6 hours later and I'm still rattled that we had Velupillay and Leckie starting in arguably our biggest game since Japan '06.

Players who are barely good enough for the A-League.
