Socceroos vs USA 2026 World Cup match thread 🇦🇺 🇺🇸

Haven't seen it mentioned but clear handball late in the second half by an american player contested by Irankunda. Ball dropped out the air onto both his outstretched arms.
I thought it was strange that no one mentioned it at the time. The commentators didn’t say a word about it. It was as clear a handball as you can get. Did I miss something? Was there a foul just before it?

Our midfield did nothing to hold the ball. They were pathetic. If anything we need a diamond midfield.
To compare us with the Tillies, we need a male version of Amy Sayer. She can play pretty much anywhere in midfield: wing, attacking mid, defensive mid. A male Daniela Galić would be good too, she can play striker or AM. Our DMs aren’t exactly the male versions of Kyra Cooney-Cross or Clare Wheeler either.

Of course this situation would be a lot better if we had Max Balard, Alex Robertson, Adrian Segečić and Nektarios Triantis.

That’s still unclear. Friendlies aren’t a part of any competition. I don’t believe he was locked in until today.
Very clear to me. Official competition is defined as part of a tournament, etc (qualifiers, final tournament), and friendlies are “unofficial”, however you still need to be eligible.

But, FIFA’s explainer notes that once a player has changed association, a match in either unofficial or official competitions OCK you in from reversing the decision to change association
20. The phrase “official competition” is defined in the FIFA Statutes as “a competition for

representative teams organised by FIFA or any confederation”.13

20.1 Friendly matches are therefore not matches in an official competition.

20.2 Similarly, matches played as part of a representative team competition not

organised by FIFA or a confederation (e.g. a regional association), are therefore

not matches in an official competition.

21.

“Type of football” (or “kind of football” as it is also referred to in the RGAS) means the

three forms of football regulated by FIFA: association football, futsal, or beach soccer.

21.1 A player who is fielded by an MA in a match in an official competition in one

type of football (e.g. futsal) is tied to the “sporting nationality” of that MA for all

types of football (i.e. association football and/or beach soccer).
AND
A player will be permitted to reverse a change of association decision where they:

107.1 107.2 107.3 were previously granted a change of association by the PSC; and

were never fielded in a match (in an official or non-official competition) by the

new MA in any kind of football; and

I don't think he has the quality to take us forward in my opinion, also he's a ball winner which we have enough of in this team when we need ball players especially players that can play in between the lines I would liked to see what Robertson could do but we need to find some quality in that part of the field.
But he was highest rated in Scotland, the epitome is high class football.

I think Devlin needs to do the dirty work and Robertson in front of him.

I've seen the replay numerous times, what kills Beach is that he dives for the shot, so when he gets up he is badly out of position its hard to rule an obstruction on it.
Unfortunate and he did it a few times against Turkey and thankfully the ball bounced away.

Poppa made rookie coach mistakes today to much respect for the USA in the first half just continously pressure on the defence. Got the lineup totally wrong from pure stubbornness and outsmarted himself. I still maintain that goal was offside.
Do you mean the other player who ran towards Beach impedes from an offside? Otherwise the scorer is the deeper of the two and totally on.

That second goal was just stupid. (1) What was Paul Okon Jr doing with the rugby like defending (much like he does with Sydney without sanction), and (2) how on earth was noone blocking the shot
I was yelling at the tv screen just before he was about to foul. That was in a dangerous area. Silly foul when the US player is going nowhere with the ball.

At 1:0 it's heads down Chile 2014 style. The goal came from a harmless situation and it's actually terrible anticipation by Circati.

From my understanding the close proximity and deliberate motion towards the ball is usually the deciding factor
My interpretation of offside law is this as well.

Scorer is definitely onside - but I do believe the other US player right on the keeper is involved enough in the play

He's somewhat close but I don't think many VAR decisions would say active play.
I’m disallowing that if I’m in the room.

I’d also be allowing quite a few goals that have been disallowed for ‘blocking the keeper’s line of sight while in an offside position’ when they’re a million miles (exaggeration) away though
