Socceroos vs Egypt - 2026 World Cup R32 - Sat 4th of July 4am AEST

Milligan looks pissed like the rest of us. Measuring his words but message is clear. Popa ball sucks
Good, I hope the media absolutely crucifies Popa. Ange got so much flak for his wild tactical decisions but at least he had the pedigree and proven success, meanwhile Popa is a dinosaur still living off 2014. I'd love for someone like Milligan to be our next coach, he'd be near the top of my list if we're looking at Aussie coaches.

I love Ange but i can see if Ange coaching this team we wouldnt win a game. It would be like Canada in the last WC that attacking any teams and played pretty well but got 0 point.

Yeah Ange would run this team into the ground.

Both Ange & Poppa suffer from the same issue, very limited game-state awareness and preparedness.

Soutar and Herrington had great games. Penalties is a rubbish way to go out, so be it, no recriminations on the players. Thought we couldn't keep possession and we're too slow in our attacking buildup. Irankundu wasn't allowed to run at players being so isolated, and should have been on the wing. Toure had not enough defensive pace, beach was massive. Volparto great, ot sure why he was subbed to be honest.
Agreed

I have no issues with the players performances - they just do what they’re told to essentially - it’s a lot of decisions that just don’t add up.

This game was another notch on the Popovic ‘I do things because why not’ belt.

Honestly - he got lucky with the way he set up against Turkey. They were diabolical, and Popovic has let it get to his head that it was his tactical surprises that caused it. So despite playing with attacking potency in that game, has now gone the next 3 games without playing that same front 3.

He thinks that he is a tactical master ever since then - and the change for Ryan proves it. Not because it was a keeper change, but because it was Ryan. If he brought Izzo on, I would have maybe understood a little bit - but like someone said earlier - there’s info on Ryan. Ryan was the one Arnie pulled off against Peru and made that tactic work. It’s like he just wanted to copy Arnie to prove himself as a tactical master.

Arnie looks a lot better in all of this in hindsight. Arnie gets shat in because he had his success with Sydney. That’s it. Same thing happened to Corica, and now hear his plaudits at Auckland. It was time for Arnie to move on though, but Popovic should be gone if he doesn’t make the final of the Asian Cup.

Agree. Ange is not the answer. But we need someone who can open up our attacking strengths. Bos, Volpato, Hrustik, Irukunda and Metcalfe are at least as good as Egypt’s attack … yet we didn’t show it.

I don't care how composed and calm Herrington is. The coaching staff and the senior players should step in and say no man, let someone else take this on.

Failure from our leadership there. He's never been in this pressure before you can't put that on him.
I know everyone will protect him, want to lay off him and talk about how other players should put their hand up, but his penalty was atrocious.

The coaches should have some idea of who can strike the ball and who can’t. It’s like if Okon stepped up, everyone knows that’s not his game. I knew Herrington would miss as soon as I saw him.

Toure, Aziz, Hrusitc were there.

I wish we had a sports media as insane as other countries. The fanatical ones would tear shreds off Popavic, here they just fucking tip-toe around it and are too gutless to call it what it is, pathetic.
Instead a tiny but sadly vocal subset of our fans will probably send Harry Souttar and Lucas Herrington death threats.
